If they MUST put a McDonald's in the neighborhood........
I was just up in Norway for the weekend, and in the Bryggen area of Bergen
we saw this McDonald's. We almost passed by it not recognizing it. Bryggen
is the old Hanseatic quarter of Bergen, and they take great pains to preserve
as many of the old buildings as they can. The building where McD moved into
was built in 1710 (see the plaque at the top). The city government did permit
McDonald's to open there, but only if they left their building intact, which
they did. Instead of those offensive garish colors, this is the way they should
do it worldwide:

There were, of course a FEW nicer buildings in Bergen.....

2. Yup. That's the one I was going to post.
You'd hardly know it was a McDonalds from the front.

I've been there; love how discreet it is.

5. That one is nicely done, too!
Maine and Norway seem to be the exceptions, though.

6. There's an Olive Garden near my job that's similarly placed.

Nice old New England brick and wood building.

I've had a few people ask me if I knew where it was because they couldn't find it. It's got the big sign out front... but the building itself doesn't look like the typical 'Olive Garden' building, so their eyes just pass right over it. :)
