I got a speeding ticket today.

I'm such a dumbass!

I was driving to Houston to pick up a job application for a Fish and Wildlife (yes I had to show up in person to get it, although I live 200 miles away). I got pulled over near Point Comfort. I saw the 55 mph sign and realized I was going too fast but it was too late. I didn't argue; handed my license and insurance before he even asked for.

I am going to go the defensive driving route again. It ends up being about even for me, even with having to pay the court costs because I get a break on my insurance for a couple of years with a defensive driving certificate.

I once got popped for 59 in a 55 on a remote interstate.

On a state highway, where the speed limit changes all the time. From 70 down to 55, then to 45 or 30m in towns.


It sucks that they would give a ticket for anything less that 10 miles over.

I am a chronic speeder and history shows that I get a ticket every 4 years or so - just to keep me in check.

5. I am little pissed at myself because it's money I don't need to spend.

And a reminder to pay more attention when I drive. I was just not paying enough attention to the signs and whatever.

But I have to option to take defensive driving and that will actually reduce my insurance a little bit so I am not hugely upset.

7. Don't feel bad. I got one two weeks ago.

I was speeding to get around a big truck. I was going 66 miles in a 45-mph zone. Didn't see the cop until it was too late. I am not so much worried about the fine, but that my insurance rates will go up.
