The week from hell continues

I just got off the phone with my dad. He was just diagnosed with diabetes..to go along with his Parkinson's...He's so frail looking at 68..*sigh*. I can't even cry..I want to, I need to but I seem to not be able to cry... and no, I feel no better about what I did this weekend but I can't cry about that anymore either...and work is so busy so stressful..tomorrow I have a bloodtest to see if all the meds I am on have actually helped...GOD DAMMIT...I WANT TO CRY....:-( x(

Is it truly Parkinson's, or is it perhaps NPH? My dad was on Sinemet for Parkinson's and it turned out he had NPH and not Parkinson's and not Alzheimer's.

Also, NIDDM is easily treated with oral medications. It's not that unusual for someone his age to be diagnosed with this.

6. Sometimes when a lot of things add up at once it feels unbearable

This was a tough day for me, too. It started with my favorite cat taking a piss on my motorcycle helmet bag & it didn't get any better from there.

Don't know what happened this weekend. And - as I said many times - I don't need to know (and my PM function is turned off so I'm sure I won't know.... and that's just fine by me). Back to you, though... hopefully things will look up for you soon. If you want to cry you should rent the movie "Out of Africa" (one of the really sad scenes is on youtube, below). But watch it only if you really, truly, want to cry. :hug:

Type 2 diabetes can often be well controlled. With a good endocrinologist, that will hopefully be the case!

Try not to worry about the diabetes. As Midlo said, it is controllable if he watches himself.

Parkinson's is indeed a drag, but I've known people to live a long time with it.

Here's hoping that your blood tests show favorable results.

10. Aw, Sue.

I completely understand how you're feeling right now - I had a few months straight of one thing after another. Any one of those things I could have perhaps dealt with - but them all piled up and coming one after another made it bad. Really bad, actually. I was really depressed for awhile, and that's NOT me. One by one things started to ease up and now I'm back to a semi-manageable state of stress.

My point is - hang in there. It WILL get better. :hug:

11. Hey, you gotta let go of some things

First off, your dad may stop looking as frail when he gets his diabetes under control, and then again he might not, but you just have to love the dad you got, not the one you wish you had. Sound harsh? Don't mean it to. I think aging parents and watching what diseases do to them is one of the saddest things that we go through in life.

Secondly, your blood test will tell you whether what you are doing is working and give feedback as to whether to continue the course. You are a scientist, its science, but its also an art. (Medicine that is)

Lastly, let go of what happened this weekend. You are not powerful enough to tear apart anything that is meant to be. You've made your amends, and you feel terrible, but feeling terrible isn't going to make any difference in what happens now. It is up to them (being your friends) to figure out what to do.
