Quick! Can I get popcorn to pop in coconut oil? Does it get hot enough?

edit: it just occurred to me, when I used to use a popcorn popper, we put in two or three kernels, and waited for them to pop. You won't cause too much of a problem at any rate.

2. Coconut oil is generally good for frying because it stands up to heat

so I would guess it's okay for popping popcorn. Never tried it though. Maybe I should. Let us know how it turns out.

4. Yes, coconut oil is preferred because it stands up to very high heat without burning.

5. UPDATE: We finally got around to making the popcorn! Delicious!

I poured about 1/2 inch of canola oil on the bottom of the pot. I added about 3 tablespoons of coconut oil (it's a solid or paste at room temperatures below 76 degrees).

Put in enough corn to insure it is only one kernel deep everywhere. Medium flame, reduce when you hear the first few pops. Shake, rattle, and roll.

The coconut oil made it very delicious! Yes, it's a saturated fat, but I believe the researchers who find islanders who use this oil in the natural way have less or no heart disease!
