Seriously, who buys items like this?
Edited on Sat Jul-19-08 10:57 AM by Pool Hall Ace
You have probably seen the commercial on TV. If not, you can view it here. It's for the September 11th $20 commemorative certificate-thingy.

I cannot imagine what people are thinking when they purchase this. Do they feel good because they see it as a patriotic gesture? Do they think that they are honoring the memory of those who lost their lives that day? Do they believe the proceeds benefit the survivors?

On one blog that I unfortunately didn't bookmark, a commenter wrote that he bought it for his child, who was just an infant at the time. He wants her to learn about what happened that day, and why we should never forget.

But why not teach the child how to perform searches at the library and on the internet? How about talking to the child about the event once she is old enough to understand? What could anyone possibly learn by looking at some cheap-ass silver leaf piece of crap?

Do people think that the certificates appreciate significantly in value?

Really, I want to know.

2. Some people collect proof of their patriotism.
It makes them feel like good people without actually having to do anything good. x(

3. But it's made in Liberia! Shouldn't it be made in the US if we're going to do the patriotism thang?

5. Well
Liberia is the only country besides the US to have its capital named after a US President.

8. The original plan was to sell it for $39.00, but I guess
they didn't think very many schmoes would buy it at that price, so it's offered at this special price of $19.95 -- like everything else on TV!
