anyone else stopped going to a salon/barbershop/etc for hair cuts?
we've started doing our hair at home as a way to save money. i take care of my boyfriend and roommate (not hard, just put the guard on the clippers and go) and one of my friends does my hair.

it saves me about $25 a cut because i refused to go to the generic hair places after they screwed up a cut and i had to go back.

$100 or so over the course of the year isn't much, but it's more than i'd have if i still got it done at the salon.

anyone else doing this?

1. I've done it before.
I usually just don't cut my hair though. That solves that. :)

2. I have been trimming my daughter's hair.
My husband goes to a place that gives $7 haircuts. I only get mine cut once every 3 months so I go to a place that charges $15.

5. that's not too bad
if the guys wanted anything more complicated than just taking the clippers to their heads, i'd have to send them elsewhere.

7. you and my dad
i don't think he's gotten his hair cut in at least five years and probably closer to 10...he just trims the ends himself as needed

6. Once a month...
...I break out my Panasonic head shears and give myself a 1 mm skull-scraper. It's very liberating to not have to worry about hair any more.

9. I do my own
Most places have NO CLUE what to do with curly hair, and really it looks better when I do it myself.

10. Hate to admit
but I have a standing appointment with my stylist every other Friday. Whether it's for color, cut, or trim I'm there. It's the one luxury I bestow on myself for all the hard work I do. And if I need to-well, I could do without food.

13. me
about three years ago. Not for the cost, just because I wanted to grow it out. It was difficult to get through the 'looks like crap' phase, but I persevered, and now it can all go in a ponytail, and only looks like crap to people behind me. :P

14. I have done hubby for some time now....
The last cut got rave reviews and an offer for me to have more 'customers'. I also do my dog too.

I can't do my own so hubby is happy to pay for my haircut and my pedi (my only real vice). Even with that, we sill come out ahead.

15. I've cut my own hair for years. It is very curly and I can get away with it. That being
said I just went to a barbershop to get the dyed part of my hair cut off so I could start with a shorter do. Once my hair is longer again I'll start cutting it myself again.
