In DU's General Discussion forum, do you ever get the impression... |
|
that DU members who respond to your post with a question don't actually care whether or not you read the question and don't actually want an answer, but are simply hoping that some audience of lurkers (distracted lurkers who aren't paying close attention and don't actually care about the topic under discussion) will be impressed?

9. I ask because it's an opportunity to have a discussion outside of GD! |
|
Edited on Fri Jul-25-08 04:17 PM by Boojatta
It's like "Good morning" which can be translated as "Look at the time. It's morning. Also, I bet that neither one of us is a propagandist/lunatic/sophist who hangs around in GD."

12. Obviously if I'm venting about GD then I think that it should be |
|
illegal to discuss political topics unless you're a registered Republican.

8. What empirical evidence do you offer to support your claim? |
|
I see no corroborating data bolstering that supposition, however...

14. I used to respond with serious questions |
|
They never got answered, so now I generally just snark.
For example, why the fuck would a lurker who didn't care about the topic click on it to read it?
Don't worry, I won't hold my breath. :eyes:

15. A lurker might, for example, be simultaneously doing a number |
|
of things and not concentrating on any one of them.
A lurker might care enough to look or skim, but not to analyze or study.
A lurker might have a state of mind associated with watching TV ads: unwilling to put in the effort to change the channel and unlikely to check Consumer Reports magazine before spending money.

18. A lurker might be a space alien. |
|
Maybe the space aliens will give me money if I impress them. Hopefully it's not space money.
