Your favorite Port.
I have to confess..me and my signifigant other are aficionados of Port...that fortified alcholic beverage that hails from the Oporto region of Portugal.

We used to buy a bottle and then settle down for Shields and Gergen (later Gigot), Washington Week, and The McLaughlin Group....

We seemed to like Dows 'Boardroom" tawney port (reasonably priced) but have tried others too...

...just wondering if there are other port fans out there ,,,and any recommendations.

15. Punchline to old joke...
"What's a Jewish American Princess's favorite wine?"

"I'd rather be in Miami!"

I know, so unfunny, but the Irish hippy guy who told me this sounded so much like George Constanza's mother when he told me this...

Here in Oregon, there's a vineyard and winery, David Hill, that makes a port that is light amber in color that is downright erotic to the palate. Expensive but sooooo good....

3. Horton vineyards pear port
Clear, potent, sweet!

It's a nice pear wine fortified, in the style of port, with white brandy.

They only sell it at the winery and it usually sells out pretty quickly.

5. Presidential Tawny Port, from Portugal
Edited on Fri Aug-08-03 03:47 PM by Rabrrrrrr
however that country is spelled.

The 30-year is pure heaven. THe 40-year, oddly, not as good, but still damn excellent.

I have only Presidential Port in the house: 20, 30 and 40 year, and some '97 vintage. But as the presidential port seller told me at the tasting at which I discovered this, and as I've read elsewhere, the aged ports are generally better than going for a vintage, which surprised me. But after that wonderful and informative tasting, I believe it: the '97 is quite good, but nothing like the aged ones. In twenty years, the '97 wil have improved, of course, but apparently port really needs to age in the barrel, not the bottle.

I love port.

If there's one thing I'm willing to do at any time, it's talk...especially about liquors. Though my knowledge of wine is far inadequate. Anything else, though... ask what thee will!
Woo hoo!!

6. 25, because it's for SMTP!
And 21 and 23 are awfully handy, for FTP and telnet respectively.

But then if we didn't have 80 for HTTP we wouldn't even be able to have this discussion!

Ohh... I thought you meant TCP/IP ports. ;-)

though ports 21 and 23 incredibly important, too, since I have my own website, being run by linux and apache, of course.
