No, this is not a sex thread - just an update on why I've been away from DU for a while, for those of you who might be interested. :)
About two weeks ago, my parents had left for an Alaska cruise to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary (which was actually last year, but for a number of reasons it didn't work out for them to go then). My brother and I were headed out to the store to buy some groceries, when I stepped on a loose brick in the sidewalk and twisted my ankle. My brother called a friend of ours from church who was acting as our surrogate guardian in our parents' absence, and she came over to take a look. I could wiggle my toes, so we figured it was probably sprained, and she helped me get inside and get my ankle elevated, wrapped, and iced. She also brought over one of her son's old crutches to help me get around, and told us to call if we needed anything else. By that point the ice and painkillers were working, so she left and my brother and I watched a movie. Everything seemed to be going fine - with the help of the crutch and a rolling chair, I was able to get around when I needed to.
The next day, I got up with the crutch to get a bottle of water from the next room, but I got kind of dizzy and lost my balance. I fell on my left side, and it was pretty apparent that my wrist was broken. Because of my injured ankle and the dizziness I was experiencing, I couldn't walk, so my brother called an ambulance and I went to the ER. Since they were already going to X-ray my arm, they went ahead and looked at my ankle, too. Not only was my wrist broken and dislocated, but my ankle was broken in two places as well. They did a closed set on my wrist, but had to operate on my ankle. I am now the proud owner of seven screws, two pins, and a metal plate in my right ankle.
After surgery, I spent several days recovering in the hospital and at my friend's house, and a few days ago my parents returned from their cruise and brought me back home. Today I went back for a follow-up appointment with my orthopedic surgeon, and it turns out that my wrist is not healing correctly, so I have to go back in for surgery on Friday. In the meantime, I have a brand new itchy hard cast on my ankle and a repositioned soft cast on my arm, which hurts like the devil.
So, that's why I'm posting with one hand, and why I haven't been around so much lately. Hope things are going better for all of you! ;)
