I know there are many Olympics haters - who else LOVES the Olympics?
I have looked forward to watching the Olympics whenever they're on as long as I can remember. I have no illusions about "bringing the world together" - I just love them, for whatever reason. I'm faunching now because we'll be at a friend's house in Boston for the first 4 days of the Games and I don't know if I'll get to watch any. I've set the DVR to record, but our DVR is notoriously rather unreliable.

2. I know - and I see those will be televised during the first weekend
Arrrrggghhhhh!!!!!! I don't think I can say nicely to our hosts, "To hell with you - turn on the TV, please!" Especially as on Saturday night the 9th my husband will be doing a musical program (Pakistani music) and I'm expected to at least put in an appearance for a couple of hours.

when its on TV on the weekends. They are damn near naked now. My wife says their bikini bottoms have to be glued on to keep them from falling off. But I only watch for the articles. No, wait, thats magazines.

Edited for typo

8. you're probably right
the way they dive all over the ground, you'd think we'd see something by now if the bottoms were fastened somehow.

27. I suspect the Olymics might be kinda neat, but the coverage is unwatchable
If it was just a few days of athletes competing I might MAAAYBE watch a bit, but there's so much more awfulness involved.

As a result I hate the Olympics with a passion.

29. Yeah, that's NBC for you.
I think it's high time another network got the rights to broadcast the Olympics for a change.

Fuck NBC and their stupid sob stories about how particular athletes "overcame adversity", just braodcast the events, you asshats!

10. I don't love them... but I am looking forward
to seeing the opening ceremony at least.

And this might be the first year my kids have any interest at all... so if they happen to want to watch, and I can enjoy it with them, that'll be nice.

13. I love the Olympics
I'm just having issues with all of the human rights issues surrounding China. I'll end up watching them, but it will be tainted by the knowledge that people were thrown out of their homes to make room for the Olympic competition areas and that animals were herded out of the areas and killed en masse. :(

18. I used to like the Olympics...
...when they showed athletes from other countries. That was the draw for me. See athletes I'd never get to see otherwise. And often they'd even show an event that didn't have any Americans in it! Gasp! The horror!

The Olympic broadcast nowadays is one big fat Jingorama!

No thanks.

19. I love the Olympics!
Watching them has been a family tradition for as long as I can remember. :) My very first Olympic memory is watching Peggy Flemming skate -- I though she was sooo graceful. In fact, I am traveling from SF to Tahoe each Olympic weekend so Mom and I can watch they together.

There is always some problem associated with them -- drugging or political issues or the nationalistic reporting by our media, but I still love the whole, crazy experience.

I will be especially interested in watching the cross country equestrian event this year -- the last Olympics they had horse deaths and injuries that infuriated me.

22. I get hooked on it every time...
every four years I tell myself I won't watch it, but I get drawn in. It's the competitive nature in me, I think. I also love hearing the stories of people from other countries and the obstacles they overcome to achieve their dream.

I get tired of the "coverage" being nothing more than a marathon of gymnastics, swimming, and the running events in track.

32. I love much of the Olympics.
I confess, I'm not all that jazzed about Olympic weightlifting, or throwing the discus. But I love the races, the swimming, the diving, the mens's and womens' gymnastics, the equestian events...ooooh, it's all so exciting.
