Poll question: Angelina Jolie wants to play the role of Catwoman in a future Batman movie

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/2467427/Angelina-Jolie-tipped-as-next-Catwoman.html

The actress, who gave birth to twins earlier this month, is reported to have already made enquiries with film executives about playing the part.

Julie Newmar, who played the feline villain in the 1960s Batman television series, said Jolie would make a fantastic Catwoman should the character be reprised.

The latest Batman blockbuster, The Dark Knight, has shot to number one at the box office, pulling in $300 million (£150m) in a record 10 days.

Ms Newmar, 74, said: "Angelina would own the part. My industry friends tell me she has already made enquiries about the role. I can understand how it would pique her interest. Catwoman is Batman's one true love."

She added: "She's tremendously popular with women because she's both a heroine and a villainess."

Other actresses to take on the role include Eartha Kitt, Lee Meriwether, Michelle Pfeiffer and Halle Berry.

The original Catwoman first appeared in the Batman comics as his whip-carrying adversary, with a taste for high-stake thefts.

Since the 1990s, the character has become less supervillainess and more anti-hero, as well as being one of Batman's most enduring love interests.

4. According to the screenwriter, that ain't gonna happen
No Catwoman, or Penguin, in the next movie. :(

Too bad...Angelina would make a GREAT Catwoman.

I'll be in my bunk

7. It says "a future movie," so who knows...
...there's no WAY that the franchise can duck Catwoman forever.

8. Lemme look...
Nope, looks like they're ruling it out for any future sequels.

DAVID GOYER: We’re not going to tell you other than to say Batman has been published for 70 years. In the first movie we used Ra’s Al Ghul and the Scarecrow who had not been in the movies before and had not been in the 60s TV show and there are dozens, if not hundreds of other characters that fit that bill. Everyone says you have to use the Penguin or Catwoman. Well, I completely disagree.

JONATHAN NOLAN: There’s a very deep roster of great characters over seventy years.

11. I don't see where it's ruled out.
What they're saying is, is that they don't have to use those characters. That doesn't mean they won't.

Not exactly leaving the door open.

15. He's disagreeing with the notion that he has to use those characters.
He made the point that he used Ra's Al Ghul and The Scarecrow for the first movie and they weren't in previous movies or the tv series but didn't he just use The Joker and Two Face who have been in previous movies and the tv show?

But we'll see what they come up with if anything.

14. Money talks, David Goyer walks...
It's EXACTLY the same as the Led Zeppelin reunion. It'll happen the minute people stop asking for it. As long as the question is "Will the Catwoman be in the next movie," the answer will be "no."

:toast:

Reminds me also of the famous Bachman Turner Overdrive cameo on "The Simpsons." They're performing "Takin' Care of Business" as Homer keeps shouting "AND WORKING OVERTIME! AND WORKING OVERTIME! AND WORKING OVERTIME" and they reply "We just SANG that" and he yells "AND WORKING OVERTIME!"

9. I can see Catwoman working in the Nolanverse.
But she would actually have to be, you know, a thief.

And please, leave the cat ears and tail on the cutting room floor.

18. They ought to do a total deconstruction of the character.
A character who's a character first. A functional cat theif/villain second. And any sexiness simply follows along.

Not some sex pot actress in a goofy leather/vinyl outfit.
