My employer is a Novell shop.
Novell is dumping Netweare in favor of Linux.
Our current staff have been labelled as "dim" (amongst other things) by staff who actually know a thing or two. (Personally, we all play our part and I generally refrain from making observations unless something irritates the hell out of me.)
I got my hands on a trial version of Windows 2000 advanced server and have a spare computer to put it on. (I may be in massive, embarrassing debt but at least I have a home network I can learn off of.)
I also run linux on my main computer.
I do want to stay with my employer because of the benefits and the union protection (and also noting that the requirements to get into corporations now are ludicrously high yet pay ludicrously LITTLE in return, those fucking bastards...)
I should talk with my supervisor to see where he wants to go tomorrow, but I AM opening my mouth in favor of Linux over Winbloat this time. No server should be based on a Microsoft product, especially with the !&@^#%$ registry and unreliable NTFS file system... But I suspect they're going to go Winbloat anyway. :eyes:
Should I study for my MCSE so I can stick with a decent job with good bennies, or go with my soul and risk ending up getting a lesser (if any) job in the end?
Novell is definitely showing guts for their move, but it might cost them if the rest of the world doesn't follow suit.
