im sure there are folks here who;ve been to auctions and are familiar w. the auction chant...
...at the end they sometimes say "XXX dollar, sold American!".....
...does anyone know why or where they use this term..."sold American!"....

... the phrase ws originally part of a print and television campaign using an auction scenario promoting the quality of the tobacco used by the American Tobacco Company. It was a hugely popular campaign, and the catch-phrase just stuck
