Anybody here like the band "Lone Justice"?
Over 20 years later, and I still think I'm in love with Maria McKee

4. Great band.....
Maria McKee solo is great as well.

I remember there was something about them that was semi-controversial during their hayday. I don't remember what it was though. Was it maybe something about Maria being overly religious or something. Or just that she was pretentious or whatever.

Either way, I still rock their self titled and Shelter album pretty regularly.

7. I also had a major crush on McKee
I thought they would be huge, but I am often wrong about such things.

8. "Ways to Be Wicked" made me realize Tom Petty's talent
I was a pretty solid post-punk - new waver & had no use for dinosaurs like Petty. (At this time).

But I did like the whole "cow-punk" thing, which Lone Justice was lumped into. So I bought the 7inch single of "Wicked" and was surprised to see Petty had written the song. It caused me to re-evaluate my prejudiced view of him. I'm still not a big fan, but I enjoy the craft of his songwriting.

It's funny how little things like that shift your view of the world...

11. Corporate radio pigeon-holing had a lot to do with it
Were they "rock"? Or "country"? Or "Cowpunk"? (And we don't have a radio format for that)

Uh-oh... she's singing about faith and God and "you are the light in my dark world"... they must be a "Christian" band, and God knows we can't put that on the air. Not that most of their songs were remotely "religious" either.

Lone Justice ain't the only band that fell victim to not fitting into a corporate category, but they definitely were one of the best to be so unfortunately ignored. Maybe if they had opened for U2 in 1987 instead of 1985 they would have been noticed by the media types.
