Allen is a friend I made on a message board a few years ago. He and I are both huge baseball fans (AL West -- him, A's, me, Angels) and that's what initially tied us together. We correspond only sporadically now, to my sorrow. He's faithful & stays in touch, and I try. (He's better at it than I am.)
I sent my HRC page initially to about 50 people, including Allen. Today he took two actions, and sent me this email:
Done! Sent message to my representatives.
Being here in the San Francisco Bay Area you can imagine what coverage we've had on this issue. Equal rights in all aspects of life for the gay community is something long overdue in my opinion.
At one time, many years ago, I was a homo-phoebe. It took one individual to straighten me out, no pun intended, on my views of gays. He became a dear friend. He died 8 years ago, and I miss him. It would have been nice to see him be "legally" joined with his longtime partner of 13 years. Three of my friends in the city took action and married their partners last week.
I hope and pray in the upcoming election that Bush gets his butt kicked.
Love you guys
Allen
And we love you, Allen. (Heh heh... homo-phoebe.) :toast: to all of our DU Friendlies!
(I've had pitifully few responses to my initial appeal. I'm surprised that more people haven't taken even one action. It is so easy. But then, perhaps they've already contacted their congresscritters independently. See link below.)
