You know why I support gay marriage?

I'm hetero, and it's very tough finding a soul mate. It becomes tougher and tougher the older one gets.

This week, we witnessed hundreds of homosexual couples get married. Some of these folks have been togther 20 plus years.

I've NEVER had a relationship last that long.

Love doesn't know age differences, social differences, sexual differences.

If someone is lucky enough to overcome these obstacles and find love -- what can possibly be wrong with these people having their commitments recognized by the law?

I found these marriage ceremonies very touching.

And I hope Bush burns in hell for trying to politicize people's right to marry and grow old together -- in the eyes of the law.

My 38th birthday is less than a month away. Until recently, I had pretty mcuh resigned myself to being alone for the foreseeable future. Thankfully, due to my now having met a fantastic woman (through DU, no less), it looks like I may just get to take a stab at happiness after all! :bounce:

And if being married is what makes some gay and lesbian couples happy, I say America needs to pull the stick out of its ass and let those people tie the knot! That I even have to say such a thing is a sad commentary on our culture.

After I get over my anger for bringing up that song, I'm just happy that folks are finding happiness. The last thing that would threaten my marriage is gay or lesbian couples. Being as how it's about gay marriage, and not a request to analyze any situation of your own, I hope folks can stay on topic with it.

I support gay marriage because I believe that a same-sex spouse should have the same rights and responsibilities as any husband or wife, including the right to include a spouse on one's insurance coverage, be at a spouse's side during hospitalization, and collect a spouse's benefits upon death. Follow the money, the expression goes; I believe it is financial issues like these that drive administrative disapproval of the idea, and religion is being used as a convenient beard to rouse the easily rabbled.
