Poll question: What is your extravagance?
I don't know how to word this. There's going overboard -- paying way too much for personal items or events -- and then there's extravagance, which I believe is a deserved (or well-rationalized) expense. I'm referring to extravagance.

What is your extravagance?

1. Guitar playing paraphernalia.
Edited on Sun Nov-30-08 01:42 PM by Jamastiene
I work years and save up for stuff that goes off the market before I can afford it, but I get the next newer model of the same thing if I really want it. Some kind of guitar playing paraphernalia I really really want is the only single item I'll spend over $100 on...for wants. For needs, I have no other choice, but to dig deeper(house, some utility bills, etc.)

I just go stupid over a guitar that is not red...and there was even one red guitar I liked one time too, but I just couldn't bring myself to buy it. It was a great guitar and only $169 because it was (barely) used. Still, I have that red guitar rule. It's a silly superstition at this point, but still to this day I don't like red guitars as far as looks anyhow, so it works for me.

Guitar accessories, OMG, forget it. I turn into a shopaholic. What I wouldn't give to have a $1000 shopping spree at a guitar center right about now. I could spend it easy without even buying a guitar or amp. I could spend it easy just buying accessories, strings, picks, straps, mods, pickups, and effects. It's been years since I could afford some nice new stuff.

12. I've finally reached a point where all I want to finish my collection is a 12 string
and at some point I want to get at least 1 custom. I used to want it to be a Jackson, but Wayne Charvel left and now I don't like the designs of his new custom guitars. I don't want an Eddie Van Halen copy. I want my own custom.

I still want an E-Bow too. Plus I still need a decent all in one effects processor in pedal form. I don't have a rack any more or I'd get another Korg A2 if I could find one, and the pedal for it this time around, and be done with it. I loved that processor. I regret selling it.

I'm finding that I don't really like many of the new modeling processors. I just want to make custom effects chains and I need an exciter for some of my new age music.

39. I still want a custom Jackson in the Charvel style.
I'm one of those people who actually likes the Japanese made Charvels from the late 80s. I will eventually want a Tele too, blonde, sweet. I still want a 12 string too, but haven't decided on which one I want to get. It will be a while before I can afford another guitar, but I do love looking at them and daydreaming too.

5. Books.
I can't be trusted in certain stores. This one especially at holidays: http://www.darkcarnival.com/
For every book I buy as a gift I end up with three for me. I justify it as research for my artwork. But some days I think I became an artist to justify all the book buying!

9. My computer.
There was no need at all for me to spend £1400 building my own computer (over $2000) but I just wanted to - it has a beautiful case, well matched components selected by me, is neat and tidy inside because I paid a lot of attention to detail, and it isn't an identikit Dell or HP box like everyone else's!

In fact I might even start a post a picture of your PC thread! :7

19. Pedicures and upkeep with my hair
I spend about $80 every couple of months to keep up my hair color and keep my layers looking nice.
Pedicures are done about every 6 weeks in the summer, not often in the winter.

I am a nurse, I work on my feet and I usually wear scrubs and have my hair in a ponytail.
My extravagance is being able to feel like a woman (somedays just feeling like a human is good enough)

31. I don't buy extravagant things
But I do buy expensive things in order to make other things more effectively.

I'll give you an example: I don't buy expensive beer. I make it myself and it costs me somewhere around 30 dollars for two thirds of a keg. That's pretty cheap. But the equipment I bought in order to acheive such a feat came to a sum of around 750 dollars or so.

Does that make sense? Probably not.

33. Astronomy equipment and firearms.
I consider shooting to be a secondary hobby, but since the weather hardly ever lets me do any observing, it has become my defacto first hobby. To shoot, it only needs to be daylight and not even that for the indoor pistol range. For astronomy, it needs to be clear, dark and moonless (for most objects.) Also, not freezing my ass off is a plus.

34. Honestly, I spend very little on myself.
Most of my music (which is a ton) comes from my friend making me copies. I do buy the odd (in more ways than one) CD or DVD, but that's usually months apart.

If I had more money I'm sure I'd waste it on a bunch of things. :)

41. Music
I could never buy enough, as long as I enjoy it. It does make CDs harder to go back to, but I make an effort to set out time. I forgot about Candice (who is actress Candice Accola,) and both added her back to my crush list (became major after seeing a cute interview,) and listened to her CD It's Always The Innocent Ones. Musically, it's a very good CD, though you can hear her voice really strain at times.

43. Cigareets and whisky
But no longer wild, wild women.
:-(

Cigarettes, whiskey and wild wild women
They'll drive you crazy, they'll drive you insane;
Cigarettes, whiskey and wild wild women
They'll drive you crazy, they'll drive you insane;

Once I was happy and had a good wife
I had enough money to last me for life
Then I met with a gal and we went on a spree
She taught me smokin' and drinkin' whiskee
(CHORUS)

Cigarettes are a blight on the whole human race
A man is a monkey with one in his face;
Take warning dear friend, take warning dear brother
A fire's on one end, a fools on the t'other.
(CHORUS)

And now good people, I'm broken with age
The lines on my face make a well written page
I'm weavin' this story -- how sadly but true
On women and whiskey and what they can do
(CHORUS)

Write on the cross at the head of my grave
For women and whiskey here lies a poor slave.
Take warnin' poor stranger, take warnin' dear friend
In wide clear letters this tale of my end.

To spare you the long of it, I'll summarize by explaining that my DU moniker is the result of the evolution of real life nicknames and once you get to know me, you'll see that I'm the antithesis of all that the Blue Meanies stand for.

To get the full, unrated version of how my screen name came about, we'd need to polish off a few glasses of wine, first. :silly:

Thanks for the sig-line compliment. I'm flying it in solidarity. Every single human being should have equal rights and so should all couples. :grouphug:

And, no, I don't think we've had a proper introduction. It's so nice to greet you, Bertha Venation! I just love, love, love YOUR screen name!
