A sweep for LoTR, WOW!
11 oscars out of 11 oscars for Jackson and such. I thing they realized how much they shafter the LoTR the past two years so they felt bad. Or maybe not. Great show, now it is time bed. Quite sad isn't it.

2. the first 2 suffered from unfortunate endings
it wasn't 3 movies so much as a 9-hour movie in 3 parts.

so, as good as the series is, it's so much easier to get excited by the whole thing when the entire story is complete.

3. I'm Satisfied
RotK wasn't perfect, but more than one of the last decade's winners have had some glaring faults, so ...

27. After a Night's Sleep, She Said
I'm more than satisfied.

After this, PJ is likely going to go back and work in the horror genre and never have a chance to be up on that podium again, so heck.

I'm damn glad.

4. Haven't seen LotR III - is it worth it?
Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 12:25 AM by Jack_Dawson
I loved I, didn't love II (I thought the trees carrying everyone around was a bit silly) is III any better?

9. It depends
On whether you've read the books. Fellowship of the Ring is the most faithful to the literature, The Two Towers strays the farthest, and Return of the King is somewhere in between.

If you're a non Tolkienite, RotK has the best action and most satisfying conclusion.

18. III was kick-@$$ entertainment
I was dog tired when I went to the movies that night to see ROTK...and I couldn't close my eyes, it was as captivating as the other two...

this coming from a person who has yet to see LOTR I in one sitting!

15. Drama? Oh you mean something with substance....
And not a computer generated monstrosity for dorks? Seems like they should have presented the Oscar to Peter Jackson's computer equipment instead.

23. Lord of the Rings has substance in abundance
If you're talking about J.R.R. Tolkien's books.

Unfortunately, most of it didn't make it into Peter Jackson's celluloid adaptation.

10. They didn't "shaft" LotR the last two years.
The Academy would never give the same movie the best picture award three years in a row. Remember that these were three installments of the same film. If you ask me, Jackson and Co. deserved all of these awards for each installment, but the studios would have been pissed.

Anyway, I have a feeling that the Oscars are sold as a kind of advertising gimmick to sell DVDs, therefore, :tinfoilhat:.

11. Very well deserved!!
I am one happy hobbit. A fantasy film finally was recognized as best picture. Peter Jackson and his crew have worked very hard for 7 years to give us this great epic work. And lets not forget Tolkien is being honored as well.

Congratulations LoTR!!

12. Question
When is the third movie coming-out on DVD?

I've always had an interest in sword-and-sworcery and stuff like that, but I have yet to see any of these three movies or read any of the books. I'd like to rent all three at once and watch them all. If they're as good as people say they are, I'm in for one hell of a weekend!

Any info would help.. thanks so much! :)

13. If it follows the schedule the other two were on....
Then the theatrical release version will be out late August/early September, and the extended/director's cut will be out late November.

25. Not this time...
The schedule on the last two were due to the WETA folks still doing post-production on the next installment, and the release of the extended version was placed in November to stir up interest for the next film's theatrical release about a month later.

From what I've heard, the standard cut DVD for RotK will be out in May. I don't know about the extended cut, but I doubt it will be anytime in the summer, when people are doing things outside instead of watching four-hour DVDs. My guess is that it will come out in early October, right at the very start of the "Christmas shopping season," to maximize sales for that period.

Then, we'll have to go completely into withdrawal. No more LotR films...

...that is, unless Jackson decides to do The Hobbit after King Kong. I doubt he'd have any trouble getting financing...

Anyway, congratulations to the whole Ring team for one of the greatest achievements in film history, finally getting its just reward!

16. I am supporting Kerry and I see no comparison between LOTR...
and him.

I did not care to see lord of rings. It's really boring when one
film wins them all.

17. It was a joke
Nothing against Kerry really, but more or less that he's the establishment canidate and LOTR was the establishment film.

Note: I will vote for Kerry in Nov.

26. Peter Jackson was not part of the Hollywood Establishment
He secured funding from Hollywood, but the production was entirely in New Zealand. He was not well known & it was a big gamble.

Of course, NOW, his worth has risen.

(as pure film), ROTK was the weakest of the III movies.

22. This was a reward..
..for all three movies. They didn't want to give awards for each, so Return of the King got them all. "Master and Commander", in terms of acting and technical achievements, blew it away.

29. It just goes to show what a f*cking farce it all is
Clearly this was payback, meaning the other movies were denied the wins in place of a grand finale, which in turn means inferior product won awards it shouldn't have.

pfft
