No way would I go back to live there. Housing prices are outrageous; traffic is abominable;
infrastructure has been f*cked by Repubs starting with Ronnie Reagan; and on top of that
the weather is BORING!

Thanks for triggering that fond memory. :hi:

19. Florida is better than any state except perhaps Hawaii. *
Never been there, but from everything I've seen, Hawaii just looks about like heaven on earth.

Honorable mention goes to Maryland on the basis of its sports teams (those that actually represent cities within the state, that is.)

*And yes, that includes you too, California. I'm sorry, but better oranges, infinitely more swimable oceans, and the fact that it doesn't dry up like a tinderbox every year makes the Sunshine State superior to the Golden State in just about every aspect (except surfing--you do have better waves for surfing, I'll give you that.) Not to mention the fact that the governor of Florida, flawed as he might be, at least isn't a pathetic caricature whose speeches consist entirely of cliched lines from his own movies.

24. My head of State (HM Queen Elizabeth II) is better than your present Head of State...
Edited on Mon Dec-01-08 09:27 AM by mwooldri
... George W Bush.

As for the incoming Head of State here in the USA... hmm... tough call. Both have class... both seem to have integrity (to me anyway), and both do good things.

However Queen Elizabeth and Barack Obama have not a lot in common. Her Maj was born royal, though when it became clear she would one day possibly become Queen, she was groomed for the purpose. The rest, we say, is history.

On edit: I've been reading the Wikipedia entry for Her Maj and in it I found some nice interesting quote: Margaret Thatcher apparently stated in a TV interview that "the Queen is the kind of woman who could vote SDP." (SDP: Social Democratic Party, a spin-off from Labour, which merged with the Liberals to form today's Liberal Democrats). Apparently my politics are in line with my monarchs' politics. Neat!

25. Well...
Connecticut is better than New Jersey. (The liberal kickassness that is living in a state where gay marriage is legal trumps NJ's fine array of petro-chemical refineries.)

Now if you asked me after January 4th, 2009...I would have to say New York is better than Connecticut. (Because NY has NYC and CT is just the suburbs of two large cities, neither of which is in CT. Also, because I'll no longer live in CT.)

many states. I'll start with 2.

Maryland is better than Florida because half the people you meet here aren't meth addicts and the cockroaches aren't the size of Toyota Tundras.

Maryland is better than Delaware because Delaware is a pitiful non-state that is only good for tax free shopping on a rainy day or driving through on the way to Philadelphia or New York.

66. Going down that list:
1. Hurricanes--Part of the contract of living in such a beautiful state. Besides, any true Floridian knows how to manage a hurricane no sweat. I'd much rather a hurricane than a freezing blizard, or worse, an ice storm.

2. Swamps--The Everglades isn't just a swamp, my friend, it's one of the most unique ecosystems in the world. And swamps in general actually have quite diverse wildlife and are actually quite beautiful.

3. Mosquitos--They feed the food chain for the super cool wildlife. Spray some Off on yourself and you won't have a problem.

4. Heat--Anyone who complains about the heat inevitably will also complain about freezing temperatures up north. And only one of those conditions allows you to go to the beach/pool and lay out, so I'll happily take the heat.

5. Humidity--Keeps things lush and green. Much rather have some humidity in the air than have to see my state burn up like a tinderbox every year.

6. Fundies--They're everywhere. Florida hardly has a corner market on em.

1. I've been through hurricanes-the further away from sea level the better.
2. I've seen worse swamps and the ecosystem will survive better without me in it.
3. You ain't seen TX mosquitos
4&5. I get plenty of heat here but the humidity is usually lower
6. The only ones more insane than the FL variety are the SC ones.
