Edited on Mon Dec-01-08 10:35 AM by zanne
I enjoy making dried flower arrangements, and this is going to be my sister's Christmas present. Please keep in mind that she is very, very hard to please. I know nothing about color; I'm no artist. This wreath hasn't been "sealed" yet, so I can still change things around.

1. Thats very nice.
The only thing I would maybe suggest is a little more green in it..the white flowers while nice kind of make it somewhat less colorful than it could be--but thats just my opinion

3. I'd like to try to find some green....
These are all flowers I grew in my garden, but I think I should go out and actually buy a few. Thanks for the tip.

2. I think you did a fine job!
:) However, if your sister is and I quote- very, very hard to please-then it really probably doesn't much matter what you do does it? She won't be happy with anything, which is her way of controlling her enviroment...

7. Good point.
The wreath is quite lovely; give it to someone who will appreciate it. Get the sister a scarf or something.

5. It only takes a few hours to make....
It's just the flower placement that gives me trouble. Color, texture, etc. Of course, I'm working with a limited amount of colors, because if it didn't grow in my garden, I don't have it. I also have two blisters from my hot glue gun.

6. I think it looks great and I'm a guy with zero artistic sense. So...whatever that's worth....LoL
I'd have to agree with the other comment about a little more green in it.

8. I think it's beautiful, but since you are asking for critiques,
I would remove the yellow flowers and replace them with purple ones. To keep the blue-red-purple scheme going. The yellow is opposite of that so it kind of clashes with the blue and purple. Just my opinion though.

9. I think it's very well made, and perhaps even beautiful.
Clearly, anyone who knows me has a pretty good idea that I would never want something like that, but that doesn't preclude me from recognizing something that's well done and artistically fashioned. I like that you didn't try to make everything symmetric and left some randomness in the color and texture distribution - looks much more organic and natural and pleasing.

I say: thumbsup!

11. Thank you, Rabrrrrr
The hardest thing is to try to make a wreath or other arrangement look "natural". It kinda makes me wonder what "natural" really means.

22. Rabrrrrr.....
I tried to view some of your paintings by going to the web site on your profile, but all I got was the homepage. Could you be a little more specific? I'd like to see some of your work.

27. Sadly, my domain has expired and I've never bothered to redo it.
I should take it out of my profile at some point, I suppose.

I take them seriously because I happen to think that DUer's have great taste, and I can always count on some objectivity here.

And thank you to all the sweethearts who just said they loved it. I like that, too. :yourock:

20. Well, she likes deep, rich colors...
But with my sister, you never know. She has the ability financially to buy me incredible Christmas presents, but this is all I have to give her. (WOW--I'm kinda like the little drummer boy)!

16. I love being able to make" something out of nothing".
It cost me about $3.00 to make. Flowers from my garden, Hydrangea from a neighbor's bush and Goldenrod from the side of the road. I also have some very fine grasses that I collected from the side of the road and some delicate branches to add to other wreaths.

Kudos to you -- dried flowers are so hard to work with.

I made a Christmas wreath a few years ago -- artificial, with various things (dried berries, ornaments, etc) wired into it and hung it on my dining room wall. That evening the kids and I were decorating cookies when one of the girls noticed the wreath and asked me where I got it. When I said I made it, she said "You MADE it? It looks like it came from Target!" LOL...they were seven at the time and there was no greater compliment in their world.

Yours does NOT look like it came from Target, it's much, much nicer.

There's a program that allows a person to give farm animals to families in third world countries. I think it would be so great to buy somebody a goat!

We still hang our teasel wreath, made by my husband's sister and mom, on our door every year. I think I'll add some red berries so it looks more cheerful in the fog. :)
