Perhaps a little TOO well.

It went off when I was making my lunch. Bacon. Bacon was the culprit. It wasn't the stove, haters, it was the bacon.

Don't blame the corporation when it was the bacon.

Personally, I'd blame the cook who allowed a kitchen travesty to occur hence setting off the smoke detector.

Not only do we get an ear-piercing siren, we have a female voice that repeats "Fire. Fire" over and over again.

We have the same problem in our condo. I swear it goes off when boiling water. The cats love it.

It's a regular little Chatty Cathy, I'm tellin' ya. It's one of those combination smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, and it's room-programmable. We have it in the hallway because the furnace is there, although the furnace is not currently functioning.

"SMOKE DETECTED IN HALLWAY! SMOKE DETECTED IN HALLWAY!"

"CARBON MONOXIDE DETECTED IN HALLWAY! MOVE IMMEDIATELY TO FRESH AIR!"

"BATTERY IS LOW IN HALLWAY UNIT! PLEASE REPLACE BATTERY IN HALLWAY!"

There are times that I'd like to toss it into the washing machine and find out if it has the ability to plead for mercy.

12. SIX TIMES on Thanksgiving

SIX TIMES.

And the worst part: an old wall heater behind the bookshelf kicked on, and we almost DID have a fire. Did the smoke alarm tell us the back of the shelf was scorching? No. x(

13. steam from beans cooking on the stove set mine off recently. All smoke alarms

are now connected; one goes off and they all go off.

You should have seen me, I was a basket case. Five alarms were going off and we had no idea what
had triggered them. We've only been in this house a couple of months. But, after having had our house
burn down last year, I called the fire dept. I'm sure they thought I was a nut case.

I knew that steam from a shower would set off an alarm, but I had no idea they were so sensitive that
a little steam from 20 feet away would do it.

I now put the range hood on no matter what I'm cooking. So far, no repeat alarms. We also had the electrician tell us which circuit the alarms are wired on, so we could flip the breaker to turn them off.
