How many of you guys here played high school football???
Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 02:56 AM by northwest
I played for St. Louis Park (MN) for two years, 1998 and 1999, Sophomore and Junior years. I was a kicker, then a linebacker. I never got any awards, cause I only got 8 tackles and a sack in 1998 and 15 tackles and a sack in 1999. I was then the equipment manager and statistician as a Senior and also the year after that, then I was an assistant coach in the Fall of 2002.

In my five total years there (1998-2002), we went 0-9, 2-7, 3-7, 2-7 and 2-8. We're one of the worst football teams in Minnesota. SLP was and is a hockey school. But nevertheless, I absolutely loved the times I had.

I'm now currently an equipment assistant for North Dakota State football.

So who here played high school ball???

2. I "played" one year
Edited on Mon Mar-01-04 03:03 AM by syrinx9999
Mostly on the bench. I was pretty good catching the ball, so I would have made a good receiver, except for one thing: I'm one of the slowest runners in the world. :(

oh yeah, I grew up in the same neighborhood as an nfl player. Kerry Jenkins. He used to play with the Jets, I think he's with Tampa Bay now. I was a couple of years older than him, and was kind of mean to him, as kids can be. Maybe I would have been nicer to him, if I knew he was gonna get so big and rich. :)

4. I did
When I was a sophomore I was honorable mention all city but I sort of capped out physically (I was 6'3" 190 at 15 and now Im 6'4" 205)

We went to the playoffs all three years I was on Varsity.

On my 8th grade team we didn't allow a touchdown all season, that was a fun team. We held one team to minus 60 yards rushing. That has to still be a record.

When I was a Senior, a skinny Freshman named Rod Woodson joined the team. He was kinda quick.

I got knocked out by a guy who went on to be an all big 10 center, that is probably my main claim to fame.

Oh, I intercepted a pitch on an option play but got pushed out of bounds by the running back.

Football is fun.

We played a 5-2 and I was a standup end with mainly contain responsibility but occasionally covered the flat.

Every year my coach would try me out at tight end and my hands would fail me in an embarrassing fashion so I stuck to defense where I could just run around and fall on people.

6. OT for the Col. Zadok Magruder Colonels
We sucked big time, 1-9, 2-8, 5-5 the three years I was there. After I finished college, they had gotten a new coach and won a couple of state titles.

7. I did too.
Four years..(lettered three). Running back/cornerback. One year of college. 21 year old freshman out of the service and a real tough guy. College ball is a whole different story especially for a walk on. I tried.

11. I played a couple of years.
My Freshmen year I was a co-captain. I played LB.

My Soph year I also played LB but was injured when I picked off a screen pass while scrimmaging against the Varsity. Somebody clipped me out of bounds after the play and my knee was never the same that year.

By my Jr. year, I was turned on to a new life philosophy, so sports lost their meaning. It used to really piss off the coaches during PE when a non-rostered player, like myself, would light up the jocks in intramural BB and FB.

I played FB for 4 years before HS. I had a head start on most of the others.

12. Outside linebacker
Pretty small but I made up for it by being fast . . . I was pretty good at running down a ball-carrier from behind or forcing him to move laterally along the line of scrimmage.

I had a lot of tackles but few sacks or interceptions.

13. I Went To A Football Factory
Big private school with a major football program. At my size, i wouldn't have lived through the first season.

I played b-ball and ran track. But, football was not in the cards for me at that school.

14. Yep - rugby
At my school (a private boarding school) you had two choices: Play rugby or join the cross-country running team.

I came to the school with a number of years of Australian Rules football behind me, so naturally they made me the fullback (I used to drop-kick penalty goals). Someone should have told them that Aussie Rules players don't know how to tackle ... sort of a problem when you play fullback
