be a money pit. The listing was 20 acres with a brick farmhouse and a huge( I mean HUGE dairy barn). We've hemmed and hawed and finally decided to take a look at it. Historically speaking, if I had a TON of money to blow...we'd buy it. Realistically, the things going to be falling down around somebody's ears quite soon. So now we now why the price was so low. I don't think an honest lender would even finance it.

MrsGrumpy's feeling kind of low today. :(

Back to life in a 50's brick tract house....

1. oh
that does sound like a dream, but kudos on being smart enough to not get caught up in emotion and jumping in without your eyes open. Hang in there, you will find it. And when you do, if you find somehting similar in Southern Minn, give me a holler - we are looking for the same! :silly:

2. But money pits are SO MUCH FUN!
You sink all of your money, time, and energy into saving an old piece of property until you're too old and tired to climb the stairs!

I speak as one who knows firsthand. Happy hunting!

3. Sorry, MrsG, that the dream was a nightmare...
And don't forget, you *always* spend more money on renovation than you plan to.

Last summer, my wife and I bought a terrific house, in very good shape, in exactly the neighborhood we wanted. We figured we had just so much to spend on some relatively minor upgrades. (Hah!) We proceeded to completely wear out the phrase "Well, as long as we're gonna fix up the _________, we might as well do the _________ at the same time."

I know it's a bit of a heartbreak that the farmhouse didn't pan out, but it's probably very wise to keep looking. When you do find a place, you'll know it's right when you see it -- with very little hemming and hawing required!
