Their only hit in the US was "come on Eileen", but they had several hits in the UK. That doesn't matter though. His non-hits are just as good as his hits.

On edit, his latest Demo "It's Ok Johanna" is one of the best songs ever: http://www.myspace.com/dexysmidnightrunners

3. That's a tough one...
I'd have to go with either:

Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie)
A Lack of Color: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jduFDgIr598

Colin Meloy (The Decemberists)
The Legionnaire's Lament: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eOc1mn-4EzE

I have a musical thing for people who can put words together in smart creative ways.

And as an added bonus a video of them singing together:

12. The two that came immediately to mind were Joey Ramone and Morrissey.
I know later-period Ramones gets a bad rap, but I honestly think this might be Joey's best performance ever: "My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down" - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1y2gI0crRHU

As for Morrissey, I know he has his detractors (ooh, does he ever), but I really like his distinctive voice and phrasing, and his lyrics are a lot more humorous and self-aware than most people realize. Hard to pick a top performance, but "William It Was Really Nothing" is way up there, if only for the segue right before and into "Would you like to marry me," etc.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOdD827NFek

Also "I Know It's Over," though this song gets a bit over-the-top even for my tastes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_OvIhq_XZNM

I love her voice and I love her songs. I like Christie McVie quite a lot, too.:D

I almost got a chance to see them once in their heyday. When I was a teen-ager, my brother and I had tickets to a Fleetwood Mac concert, but I had a summer job and he didn't, so he wouldn't wait until I was out of work, insisted on leaving early, so my mother went with him, instead. *sigh* She doesn't even remember... :-(

BTW, my "new" car has a CD player and the only one I own is "The Best of Fleetwood Mac..." :-)

62. My Dad was the musician in my family. He played sax and clarinet in a band from the age of 14.
He pretty much abandoned his music when he grew up and got a time-consuming day job, so I only remember him playing when I was very young. *sigh*

But I do remember the records and watching TV with him and he'd point out who had the good voices, which I still remember. He also had perfect pitch. His particular favorite was Ella Fitzgerald and he got to meet her once when she was performing in the area, before I was born, but he was impressed enough to tell me about it. He also once spent the day with Shirley Chisholm, but that's for another thread.. :D

Sinatra always said that Tony B was his favorite singer. And for good reason. Listen to him duet with the late, great Bill Evans on "My Foolish Heart." That would bring tears from a stone.

It's one of the songs that saved me from my dark past. And I sorta have a man-crush on him.

My favorite singers (right now, the list always changes) would probably be Ville Vallo and Lauri Ylönen.

but I suspect that had I had the opportunity to see David Ruffin ( The Temptations) or Jackie Wilson live, Mitch woulda been no better than #3 ( but still incredible). BB King's pretty amazing too. Opened for the Persuasions once and still can't quite believe I got to see Jerry doing his voice warmup exercises in the dressing room and patiently explaining what he was doing...... Now you may not like his style, his songs, the lyrics, the arrangements or the instrumentation... But you gotta admit: nobody had a voice as strong and diverse as Sinatra. That's not to say I like his songs best, though. But as a singer, nobody can top him.
