Favorite grammar/spelling mistakes

I've got a couple:

a lot is 2 words
stocked = stalked
this bored = DUH! board, or, I was so board.

OMG! I am such a language geek, and now I can't think of any more! :(

Help me out, please!

1. Loose/lose

Makes me want to break something organic.

3. Too many to mention

and I wouldn't exactly call them "favorites", as the sight of them makes me want to hunt the posters down and do them serious harm.

I tend to cycle through whatever grammatical (spelling, punctuation) errors torque me off, and this week my ire has been reserved for people who are in the rock and mineral business and yet still can't spell "fluorite". They insist on spelling it "flourite", which wouldn't be pronounced "floor-ite", but "flower-ite". They should know better by now. (This would apply to "fluoride" misspellers too, I suppose.)

Also scientists and medical persons who don't know the difference between a noun and an adjective. "Mucus" is the noun; "mucous" is the adjective. (Could this be inspired by the latest boogery plague at the MG house? Could be, could be...)

4. Two out of many that bug me are

"except" and "accept" and "advise" and "advice." I'm always seeing "advise" used instead of "advice."

5. "could of" or "would of"

for "could've" or "would've"

8. That is one of my LEAST favorites.

"Of" instead of "have" is almost as bad as "are" instead of "our". I guess my favorite would be "flower" instead of "flour". I like the imagery.

so I have many many fav mistakes..

9. Their spelled as thier...

Their spelled as thier annoys the stuffing out of me.

Public typo'd as Pubic.



All Time Favorite Typo of mine-- an ad left my department that was to read, "...and custom cut meats." It wound up printed as "...custom cat meats." :P

10. "Exploided" rather than "exploited."

On another board I read, there's a member very, very, very concerned about "missing and exploided children." I sympathize with those kids, but I cringe when I see that misspelling.

It's and its...it's getting to be an epidemic.

Occasionally I will see 'waste' as 'waist.' That's a trip and a half!
