They developed the Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) cell, which is zero-emissions, and has considerably more range than current cells.


One of the engineers is a car-nut, and has a couple of his own vehicles modified with PEM cells, including an old Porsche 914 and a Toyota 4Runner. I often see him driving around in his bright orange 914. It's weird, it makes no sound at all.
