Why am I teething? I'm 18

Why didn't anyone tell me about the pain of wisdom teeth?, one of them really hurts and theres still a big lump of gum covering one quarter of it, so plenty more pain to come.

If i wasn't at uni I'd get mummy to rub Cowpole on it, the purple flavour, yummy.

oh god that sounds immature, but it hurts!

I know what you mean.. yeah it hurts alot.


My dentist wanted to remove them, and I asked if it was nessecery.. so he said.. "err.. well no it's not because they are growing correctly" so I said.. ok sorry then I'll keep them.. and I still have 'em :D


He DID clean the wounds in the gum since it had become infected.. you better do that aswell.

4. First year at college

seems to be when they want to come in. Be sure and go to the dentist. I had extreme pain with mine and it was an infection. The dentist in the college town gave me an antibiotic so I could finish exams and I got them all pulled when I returned home.

On an interesting note, my mother is 82 years old and has commenced to cut a tooth. So I guess you're never too old.

5. I used occasional anbusol (anbusal?) when mine came in

Mine waited until I was 25 or 26, and three all came in at once. Thankfully, they all came in well, and my fourth one is just hanging out, apparently quite happy, so I never had to have them removed.

But yeah, they hurt coming through. I empathize with you.

6. I didn't get mine until I was 18 also.

But by the time I was 30, I had to have them pulled because they rotted.

And ibuprofen for the inflammation if aren't allergic.

8. I was 20 when mine finally showed up on an xray

and uou didn't have to be a dental expert to look at the pictures and know all of them had to come up - anyone who had ever seen a model of what your teeth are suppose to look like would have know that - just no room in my jaw. (I had some poor little dental student who was going to explain to me why they had to be removed and I totally crushed him when he put up the Xrays and I said "Oh, what a mess. I guess they're all coming out.") One of them was trying to come in with it's crown against the back of the tooth in front of it. I was lucky to get rid of them before they caused any pain.

10. I was looking in my mouth

ANd i think i have room theres a clear gap for each of the four teeth, I have had very good teeth, no cavities or braces, hopefully this won't be an exception to the rule.

One of them hurts one is starting to but the 2 top ones arent there yet. If the pain gets worse i better go to the Uni dentist.

9. Just pray that they're coming in straight.

Easier extraction that way, if necessary. Both of my bottom wisdom teeth developed sideways, and had to be cut out painfully. Luckily, I didn't have any on top.

You are lucky if they are just coming in.

Mine came in sideways (well the lower ones did) and the tops weren't much better. As a bonus: My jaw was too small to support a full mouth of teeth and the wisdom teeth. I had a few teeth crack because of the pressure. Plus it totally ruined my gum line, forcing my teeth far above the original level.

I had to have my wisdom teeth surgically removed along with two teeth that had broke off.

I woke up halfway through the surgery and had fulll sensation of my teeth being sawed in half...

Happy nightmares. :evilgrin:

14. Same here.

The lower right wisdom tooth cracked my back molar, which had to also be removed. There's still a hole in my gum there, and my surgery happened four years ago.

15. You guys are mean

I had all four impacted teeth taken out at once and a) didn't wake up during surgery (and I had it done at the U of M dental school) and b) used my hot and cold packs as instructed so I didn't bruise or swell too badly c) and used my pain killers as instructed. Granted the first few hours after I woke up were miserable - but that was as much the result of the anesthesia. By the next day I was functioning and only sore but not in pain.

Hey - and when I was 11 I had four other teeth pulled because my jaws are so small. It's probably why I'm always shooting my mouth off - I'm compensating for a small jaw. :evilgrin:

Why does everyone say surgery? I only got novacaine for my four impacted teeth! I got no hot and cold packs! I was in agony for the next two weeks -- lots of blood -- I may have had dry socket but no way in hell was I going back!

11. I kinda lucked out.

Mine came in when I was 18. I wouldn't describe what I felt as pain, it was more like a LOT of pressure and some bleeding. Didn't have to have them pulled or anything, and the top set closed the slight gap that I had between my two front teeth.

13. I had to get all four of mine removed at age 21

As they had all grown in sideways.
