I subscribe to the theory of informed consent....

as long as one knows there is obsecenity involved and chooses to participate, that's just fine.....as long as one is making a conscious choice it's just plain old freedom of speech........

like puke scenes,
The Shrub,
700 club,
Rush Limbaugh,
Crime scene photos,
Stiff excusing/glorifying rationalizing pedophilia,
rape scenes,
the passion movie...

I prefer not to bother to watch TV much anymore because most of it to me,is obscene anyway,because I think our culture is insane.(not in the way the insane rightwingers think tho)Besides there are reviewers and commentaries and if it's something gross to me by my criteria of what is obscene I won't bother watching it.I don't gotta be first in line to see a movie.I don't need to be anyones nanny either.I don't need to tell people what to watch say or think.
I got better things to do.And I got an off/stop button on my TV.Or I can walk out of the theatre.I ain't a prisoner of the screen or my 8 bucks worth at a movie.
I can take care of myself and so I do my own quality control thank you. I suggest others learn how,to quality control themselves and thier own kids themselves because our freedom of expression depends on it.

how come certain words are considered obscene and others not. For instance, "fuck off" is obscene, but "chair" is not?

I've never understood that about human culture. Why do things have to be classified "obscene" and "clean" anyway?

BTW sacred or profane whatever .You know one man's poison is another's pleasure and vice versa.You also are aware one man's conspiracy is another's' business plan.......What is most important here is how do you choose to interact with your fellow species.Does your locus of self-control reside within you? Have you gotten over the fact that unpredictability exists and the only way to master it is to control how you respond,instead of manipulating others into responding how you prefer?? Are you the authoritarian type of person who expects others to control them self or accept your'rules' so you can feel in control of your chosen environment because you don't want to be responsible for your own responses to what others say,create or whatever??

Authoritarians have a kind of disordered perception that tells them other people must behave as they want them to or the authoritarian thinks the world is falling apart because he is in denial about the game he plays that says only way an authoritarian feel secure and allay their own anxieties is when other people do as authority demands and people do not go past these arbitrary 'limits'certain authoritarian types think is 'permissible for other people .Which is pretty damn arrogant and fucked in the head if you ask me....Respecting another's autonomy and consent and taking responsibility for your own mental environment by yourself is the key to true freedom from obscenity or authoritarian censoring as however you define it.Your definition of what is Pure or impure,it matters not to me.I have my own definitions of what's obscene and it need not concern you because maintaining my mental environment is MY own responsibility ..I am in control of myself and no one else.
