The American Pie movies have now officially jumped the shark. The humor has become timeworn, the plotlines have dulled and the characters have outgrown their usefullness. That is not to say that American Wedding is a total failure. It has its moments of sentimental value and humor, but if you have watched the previous 2 movies on more than one occasion, you might find the many sexual gags to be a bit on the predictable side. Nor does the plot follow an especially spontaneous path. The most interesting part of the movie actually has nothing to do with the marriage of Jim and Michelle, but rather, watching Stifler come to grips with the fact that it's time to grow up. Indeed, it's almost as if a separate spin-off movie could have been made just on that--though it's probably too late now. My recommendation: see it if your an American Pie fan, as it is, like it or not, the likely end of the whole saga, but you can wait until it comes out on video if you have higher priorities with which to deal.
