2. Wrap those beefy arms around the guy, and squeeze until
he can't breathe.

That outta shut him up for awhile.

6. In Auburn, there's a dealership manager, or owner, I'm not sure which, who
does his own TV commercials dressed in a very natty business suit, and speaking in a very low tone of voice. Calm, matter-of-fact, conversational. I'm thinking this is a very smart dude. His car commercials are the only ones I don't mute, mainly because I forget to. He's not shouting at me or wearing crazy, idiotic costumes. He must sell a lot of cars to a lot of grateful consumers...

Advertisers should take the hint.

BTW, I'm with you on the whole Billy Mays thing, SeattleGirl. When he's on, I wish there was a button on my TV that I could press, James Bond-villain-style, and watch him asplode... :+

7. My uncle took the same approach
He had a car dealership for decades. In the '80s he had a series of commercials where he never said a word--other actors spoke (calmly, reasonably), and when the camera panned over to him he waved and smiled. Everyone in the area LOVED his commercials. When he died last year, that's what people commented on the most--how much class he had--never shouted or resorted to silly gimmicks.
