Any fans of Boston Band "The Lyres"?
Hey all!

The Lyres were one of my all time favorite garage bands...got to see them live a whole buncha times in the 80's, and they always rocked like crazy...

My favorite show started rough...the lead singer/organist Jeff "Monoman" Connally was having a tough time keeping it together, then started hitting a bottle of Jack...within 10 minutes, it changed from a hit & miss show, to one of the most intense rock & roll shows ever!!! The place went completely nuts (I actually dislocated a shoulder!!!).

If you're curious, or a fan of modern garage like the Von Bondies or the Strokes, check out tracks like "Help You Ann", "Don't Give It Up Now", & my favorite tremolo track of all time "How Do You Know". You won't be disappointed!!!!

1. "Pain" is a great song.
Check out Mono Man's first band, DMZ, as well. Great Tacoma-inspired garage/punk.

11. Midheaven rules!
I'm hoping they will distribute my album once it comes out. Tony Millionaire (www.maakies.com) is doing the cover art.

2. I am crazy about the Lyres!
I saw them a bunch of times in the ate 1970s and early 1980s. Just last year on a whim I bought Those Lyres--not the world's greatest, but pretty damn good anyway. Half of it is a live show from Oslo. I listened to it over and over and over and over...then bought Lyres Lyres and AHS1005.

I fookin' loov the Lyres!

5. Is Jeff Connally (Monoman) still doing any music projects?
Just curious...I haven't seen the Lyres tour since the very early 90's, and most of the stuff that's come out over the last 10 years or so have been reissues or live shows...

9. I think he might be doing some production, IIRC.
(But I could be thinking of somebody else.)

6. A friend of mine owns a record store in Boston and is friends
with monoman. I have seen them play twice in the last 2 years at a house party. The last time monoman and the drummer got into a fist fight after the show.

7. No surprise there :)

I saw two shows where Monoman was fighting with his band...no wonder the Lyres had like 50 members through the years!!!

On edit, which record store does he own? I'm up here in Maine, and always looking for a cool RECORD store (i.e. VINYL!)

10. I kinda like them.
I had some of their records, which I liked. But when I saw them live once, I wasn't all that impressed. The Chesterfield Kings were on the bill, and *they* blew me away.
