Poll question: Favorite "acquired taste" voiced singer

Because I think there are some who get a bad rap because they don't sound like every other Eddie Vedder clone out there.

He sings so high, I had trouble having my ear adjust to his wailing... Now I get chills when I hear the opening bars to The Israelites.

Much as I love Dylan, Waits has the more interesting and moving voice.

Didn't really take any acquiring though.

Dylan's voice is very over-criticized too. Yeah, it's nasal and at times just wanders around in the vicinity of the pitch he's shooting for, but his rhythm and cadence are better than all but the best of rappers, and it just has a lot of soul and character.

"Bone Machine" landed in my lap one day and I found myself drawn to it.

honorable mention to Bruuuuce, who used to irritate me with more than just his voice, but (after hearing "Magic") has become someone I not just admire but genuinely enjoy.

I am, or really should say was, a performer also.
And funny thing is, like so many young girls of my time, I had a teeny-bopper crush on John Denver. It was his cover of "Paradise" that led me to John Prine, and I'll forever be grateful to him for that, even though I outgrew Denver's music. (Although he was a fine songwriter in his own right -- not necessarily the most commercial of his songs, however.)
