Why is Grandma in a suitcase?
We went to a funeral parlor tonight to support a friend whose mother died. She was in good spirits. She'd found things to laugh about with her mother in the last days.

This phrase was spoken by my friend's five-year-old nephew tonight.

2. His nine-year-old brother explained it to him . . .
. . . having been to a funeral before. Good brother.

3. very good brother
I remember going to my grandmother's funeral when I was about 3 or 4.... it's one of my earliest memories. I wasn't really together enough to be sad, but I knew that it was weird. I remember thinking that she looked like George Washington in the casket - I may have said so, and gotten in trouble for it.

4. Same here.
I remember going to my grandmother's funeral at that age. I thought she was sleeping. And I remember my Aunt, grandma's sister talking to me about it.

7. Funny story...
My sister was taking her two young sons to the funeral of their paternal great-grandmother. She explained to them what to expect - some people crying, some people telling stories and laughing, the presence of the body, etc.

When they got to the parlour, the boys immediately ran right up to the open casket. The youngest turned around and announced to the room, "Yup, she's dead alright!"

True story.
