Facebook etiquette: Is this a good sign?

I interviewed for a job and was promised a follow-up interview. The follow-up has not yet been scheduled. But the guy I interviewed with now wants to be my Facebook "friend."

Is that a good sign, a bad sign or neutral?

1. He either wants to get a better feel of you on a personal level...or just thought you seemed nice.

Those are the two possibilities that come to mind.

...that prospective employers may be using Facebook to screen applicants. I'd leave off accepting the friend request until you know if you have the job or not.

4. I must be weird...if I were job-hunting, the first thing I would do is

close out my Facebook. I guess it all depends on the field you work. I think it is a test of some sort. :shrug:

You can sell me that and I would buy it. I have never been over there. I was on MySpace for about 2 minutes (more like 2 weeks). I didn't really care for it and I figure Facebook to be more of the same. Isn't it more of a social networking type of place? Seems like I have read articles where people have been exposed (?! ;) doing things that would not be considered professional and would make a potential employer question the applicant's judgment.

I went to five different high schools in four different states so, I am kind of interested in this type of thing but, I am hesitant because of the spam MySpace dumped in my email and it was not the easiest place to maneuver.

21. Yes. You can make it so that you are unsearchable and only visible to friends.

Of course, if you post on someone's board, you will be visible, but the person won't even be able to try to friend you.

He also is married and has at least one kid. While that does not necessarily mean "not gay," I do not think the guy is gay.

My Facebook page is pretty tame.

14. I understand. My page is pretty tame too. In fact, I'm trying to make it into a kind of resume

but here is the thing. You gotta watch what goes out over the live feed. Some of my friends have it so that whenever they post a comment on a picture or a video, it broadcasts that to every one of their friends. An offshoot of this is that I have seen pictures of many of my coworkers and several superiors celebrating halloween, birthdays, etc with some pretty boozy pics. I've also seen people I don't know in stupors because if person X is my friend and comments on person Y's picture, I suddenly see the picture and comment.
