I have a serious question about Ozzy's Iron Man song

What turns him around? First he tries to save all mankind, then a coupla stanzas later, he's out for vengeance.

Also, on further reflection, I was wondering, is he alive or dead, and has he thoughts within his head?

The Wizard of Oz (Ozzy?). I picture the tin man all rusted out and then the munchkins oil his joints and he goes to a hatchet swinging murder spree.
