Paula Abdul says the Fox network and "American Idol" producers knew Paula Goodspeed had stalked her,
http://tv.msn.com/tv/article.aspx?news=343368>1=28103

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Paula Abdul says the Fox network and "American Idol" producers knew Paula Goodspeed had stalked her, and allowed the woman to audition for the show anyway.

"I said this girl is a stalker of mine and please do not let her in," Abdul said Monday during an interview with Barbara Walters on her Sirius XM radio show.

Goodspeed was found dead of an apparent suicide in a car near Abdul's home last month.

Abdul said "Idol" producers ignored her protests and brought Goodspeed on the show "for entertainment value."

"It's fun for them to cause me stress," Abdul said. "This was something that would make good television."

At the behest of producers, Goodspeed appeared on the show more than once, Abdul said.

Both Fox and Fremantle Media North America, which produces "American Idol," declined to comment Tuesday.

Abdul, 46, said Goodspeed had written her "disturbing letters" for nearly 18 years and that she maintained a restraining order against the woman at times.

The "American Idol" judge also accused Fox of making her home address public, although she added that Goodspeed found the place on her own after an audition: "She followed me home with her mom."

When Walters asked why Abdul remains on a show that put her in peril, Abdul replied: "I'm under contract."

3. No.
I mean, maybe, if you paid me or something. But I really don't care. I'm the guy that never watched that show and voted for Sanjaya just to piss people off. Man, that dude was something. But anyhow, no, I don't care in the slightest. When I read articles like that, I often think really asshole thoughts like, who the fuck would want to stalk that crazy pill popper to begin with?

4. Paula is a flake, but I totally believe her
People (including me) make fun of her for her often apparent "stonedness" on air, and the whole Corey Clark thing, but she is a well-respected professional in the industry, and AI has a duty to protect her. I had no idea this woman was the long-time stalker I had read about.

6. That is scary. She changed her name to Paula.
She obviously had some mental disorder and the producers should have given that much consideration. This girl was a threat to Paula and obviously herself. Then she got made fun of my Simon and Randy. Just goes to show that people will try to profit off of anything. I think they should be ashamed.

12. I do, too.
And by encouraging that mentally ill woman (by having her on the show) and then ridiculing her, they very likely are complicit in her death. It's disgusting.

24. uhmmm...
I mostly agree but Paulas "respect" is more along the lines of indulging a crazy aunt or uncle. What I mean is she is liked a lot but respect...? Im assuming you meant for her vocalist career not the TV personality.

25. No, she's a highly-regarded choreographer
Edited on Wed Dec-10-08 03:40 PM by LostinVA
And has been for decades.

She is also considered, by both Randy and Simon, to be the most savvy of the judges.

26. Oh yes!
She is a pretty darn awesome choreographer and she does have respect regarding that, no doubt. I know of a few who have worked with her musically though and her abilities... well. Never mind its not important. As for Randy and Simon well they both make money, so I guess I'll keep quite about that one too. All that being as it may shes dead on about Fox execs.

5. She
is perhaps the single most nutty person on TV... But I think she is telling the truth... Oh, Tyra Banks is up there as one of the top fruitcups on TV too...

About the "Under contract" thing... That show pays her a fortune and since she has to live like a princess, she needs the dough - If she wanted out of her "contract" a good lawyer could unwind that deal real quick.

7. And it brought her back. She is probably better known now than when
she was a hit pop singer.

17. Gawd; Ab-dull has more excuses than I do on a good day.
Why can't she bugger off and think of more people to blame?

Hell, given what the show does (incites anxiety by the judges making truly pissy comments), why the frig is she surprised?

Plus it's modern day hollywood.

Get over yourself.

(in the 1970s, some shows were harsh as well. The difference being that those shows were made in the spirit of genuine, inclusive fun... and people weren't so cold and didn't have big sticks up their butts to be hauled around like large popsicles when these days it's about being snide and tramping down everyone else to be famous for 15 seconds when not worrying about being voted off by a dimwitted population.)

19. Yes, because being stalked was ALL Paula's fault
And, it isn't like a celebrity has ever been murdered by a stalker.

:eyes:

Having been myself a victim of a stalker who threatened to kill me and made my life a terrifying hell, I find your attacking Abdul as insensitive at best and loathsome at worst. Shame on you for blaming a victim of such a terrorizing crime.

18. I cannot stand Paula Abdul's music...
but she should sue the hell out of Fox for purposely stressing her out and putting her in possible danger. I'm no great fan of the woman, but she shouldn't have to live being harassed like that and then have her own bosses ADD TO IT. That's atrocious.
