DENVER, Colorado (AFP) — Colorado Avalanche captain Joe Sakic, already sidelined with a herniated disc in his back, is expected to miss three months of the National Hockey League season after a snow blower accident.
The Avalanche announced Wednesday that the 39-year-old Canadian center underwent surgery Tuesday to repair three broken fingers and a damaged tendon after the mishap at his home.
"Joe surgery's was performed by a hand specialist," said Avalanche team physician Andy Parker. "The procedure went well and he's expected to make a full recovery."
Sakic will continue to receive treatment for the back injury that the team announced a week ago would keep him out for six weeks. Now Sakic is not due back until March, when there will be only about a month to go in the season.
