Mainly because they are good at swindling NYC into paying for everything. The city is covering the vast majority of the team's stadium construction costs. The Yankees did not need a new stadium, and if they wanted one soooo badly, then they should've paid for it themselves. Why is public spending only okay when it goes to something private?

The last three years of a seven year deal at an average pay of $18M for a 300lb.+ starter with a lot of mileage on his arm who will be on the wrong-side of the traditional peak-age for a starter and hates conditioning? The words train-wreck come to mind. Do you really want another Bartolo Colon?

Don't get me wrong, I'd love C.C. on my Red Sox but I wouldn't have gone 1 day over 4 years and neither should have anybody else...the Yanks are desperate for starting pitching (reports are that their internal assessment is that they needed 3 quality arms out of FA for the rotation to be competitive) and they overpaid to make sure they got their man.

I never looked at it that way. CC is getting older and he could be another Bartolo, which would be a bad thing. If this offseason has taught me anything, it's that "for the love of the game" no longer exists and "for the love of the almighty dollar" has taken over full force.

Scott Boras ( :puke: ) has been touting these fucking draconian contracts for his players and I think a lot of the teams that are going to be signing them will really regret spending that kind of money for short-term players, especially with the economy the way it is. 2009 is certainly shaping up to be an interesting season.

I don't like it. First of all the attendance will drop last year as Wall Street will (hopefully) not use taxpayer dollars for luxury suites at a baseball game.

I've already been priced out of yankees games, and i'm a lifelong fan.

I guess it's the Trenton Thunder for me now.
