Poll question: #1 grin-like-an-idiot song of all time?
Edited on Wed Dec-10-08 04:54 PM by undisclosedlocation
Edits:
Martha and the Vandellas: Dancing in the Street replaces Police: Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
Doobie Brothers: Listen to the Music replaces Sly & the Family Stone: Dance to the Music
Allman Brothers: Jessica replaces Rolling Stones: Brown Sugar
James Taylor: Your Smiling Face replaces Lovin' Spoonful: Do You Believe in Magic?
Isley Brothers: Shout replaces LEN: Steal My Sunshine
Seals and Crofts: Summer Breeze replaces John Lennon: Whatever Gets You Through the Night

Apologies to anybody who voted for one of the tunes replaced above during the year it took me to make all the edits, and to all those whose excellent suggestions didn't make the cut.
And yes, as a matter of fact, I AM the morning DJ on WOLD.:)

But lately it's this song that might be called Someone Will Be There. <3

9. From the list I picked Katrina and the Waves
I used to hate that song, but now I like it

Not on the list I would say James Taylor's Whenever I see your Smiling Face. I love that song :)

15. "Summer Breeze" by Seals and Crofts
At any time of year that one makes me feel good. I'll also give an honorable mention to "Moonlight Feels Right" by Starbuck. It always mellows me out as well, plus I have to give props to any Top 10 that features what sounds like a xylophone solo- as I used to play that instrument in my high school band. haha

Think the Starbuck number features either vibes or marimba, but you may be right.

17. xtc - stupidly happy

m stupidly happy
Everythings fine
Im stupidly happy
My heart pumping wine
Im stupidly happy
With idiot grin
Im stupidly happy
You wont catch me in

All the birds of the air call your name as they land on my kitchen roof
All the fish in the sea do the same if you need extra proof

Im stupidly happy
My vision is skewed
Im stupidly happy
Im coming unscrewed

And if the devil walks up dressed in any disguise
I take him by the collars look him in the eye
Im stupidly happy
Now youre my defense
Im stupidly happy
Its all making sense

Im stupidly happy
I roll like a train
Im stupidly happy
With you in my brain

All the lights of the cars in the town form the strings of a big guitar
Im a giant to play you a tune for wherever you are
Im stupidly happy
Are the words to that song
Im stupidly happy
And nothing is wrong
And should the devil walk up with his business card out
Ill tear it to confetti with a grin and shout,
Im stupidly happy
All of the time
Im stupidly happy
Now youre mine

:)

I couldn't decide on that or "Then She Appeared" or "My Bird Performs", but "Stupidly Happy" is a grinfest just in visuals presented :D

26. "Jessica" is an amazing tune, though I'd put "Blue Sky" up there as well.
Showcases what a talented singer AND slide guitarist Dicky Betts once was.

35. "Blue Sky" is a much happier, or at least warmer, vocal performance
than say "Rambling Man" suggested above. Definitely one of my grin like an idiot numbers, though the editing window ran out a while back. Ah well.

36. Yeah, "Ramblin' Man" is ultimately a sad song, "Dixie women" or not.
I mean, being born in the backseat of a Greyhound? How much more humble an origin could one have? :P

27. Other: Summertime by DJ Jazzy and the Fresh Prince
It's such a "Warm Summer Day in Philly" song that I get happy happy everytime I hear it.

Also anytime I hear "All Good People" by Yes on the radio because something really good is about to happen. I heard it 3 times on the radio a week before Obama was elected. I knew it was a sure bet!

34. Do you remember 20-odd years ago, just before they broke national,
when Jeff and Will did the promos for Power 99? I don't even remember listening to that station hardly at all, but I still remember the promo (and thinking "These guys are going to be huge!") though all I recall specifically is something like "Oh no, what a bummer/ it's (some specific time of day) time for Barbara Summers!"

"All Good People" is an excellent grin like an idiot number, particularly "Your Move," especially if you have a big chess match coming up!:)

30. "Sorry" by the Nerf Herders
With lyrics like

Sorry I showed up at your party
Sorry I drank up all the Bacardi
Sorry I puked up all over your bedspread
Sorry I wanted to be your boyfriend again

Sorry I showed at your wedding
Sorry I tried so hard to get in
Sorry I screwed up your pictures
Sorry I had sex with your sister

What can I do,
it's over, it's over, it's over, it's over
What can I do,
I am the loser
