I just accepted a partnership offer in a restaurant
so, you won't be seeing much of me around here. With my wife; she's an operations specialist and we both do food. We are starting from scratch, have to write the menus, the whole thing! Nice departure from the securities racket I guess.

Starting a restaurant in the worst economic environment in 70 years: what could possibly go wrong?
Woot!:toast:

Did I mention that DUers will get free stuff?

10. it's not that kind of place
Because it's in a 100 year old building in a ranching community, I'm thinking bolo ties though

9. as you can see, this place is farther than that
10 miles inland from Ventura, about 15 minutes below Ojai

But I like to go new places.

Do you know if Edwards AFB ever has air shows?

15. not sure, but I've always wanted to cruise out there and watch the shuttle land

especially at night
Also, just the daily traffic at Edwards is like an airshow, but they might be paranoid about watching these days, I don't know.

13. First, all the best.
Second, be very careful about overseeing your staff.
Knew some people who took over a restaurand, did it all from the menus up, made it work and thrive. They decided to bring in a pro manager ane gradyally left the day to day operations to him. They went on a vacation, and returned to find their business a shambles, stolen food - whole orders-shorted receipts, dirty, broken, business way down, reputation bad. This was in about 2 months.
It is a great business if you are willing and able to do the work and be there most of the time.

Good luck.

14. Thank You Mark
we've actually got a long history of doing this so I don't anticipate any issues like that.

We've partnered in six previous restaurants, two still running.

25. The people I mentioned had grown up running their parents bar,
and decided that a restaurand was a "better class" business than a bar.
My dad owned a neighborhood bar at one time, and I'm very familiar with the time commitment it takes to do it right.

Again, every good wish for success.Even unempluyed people have to eat.

17. My dear Capn Sunshine!
Biggo congrats!

If I can get my husband to go, we will make the trip!

PM me the address, OK?

It is a tough time to open a restaurant, but since you've been there before, you know the ins and outs!

What kind of cuisine are you looking at?

We'll eat anything!

21. Thanks my Dear Peg
It's in the ranching country in a 100 year old building so we envision a chophouse w/ comfort food type of place. All the partners are millionaire ranchers; you know any? very low key but Loooooaded.

28. I've been tempted by such a venture...
Two of the guys in my band used to be co-owners in a local club, and the guy they used to own it with is looking to sell again. I figure another two guys in the band can own it for a while, then sell it to the remaining two band members. :)
