I'm losing my job at the end of the month...
I'm freakin' terrified. They're eliminating my position, along with the other safety folks at a bunch of sister companies; combining it into ONE position to cover about 12 facilities.
I'm behind on just about everything as it is, since they cut hours earlier this year, and my part-time job is sporadic, so not much steady income there. (Not much income, perdiod, let alone steady, I should say.) I've been sending resumes out for several weeks now (I could see the writing on the wall) but have gotten not so much as an interview yet; a lot of the places have put the advertised positions on hold until after the first of the year...
I'm so afraid we'll lose the house; I'm not exactly a spring chicken, and safety/training is one of the first areas to get cut in a bad economy (fluff, you know...not important stuff like actually making something, or tracking items with dollar signs on spreadsheets...)
I'm just scared shitless.
I took an $8/hour pay cut when my last job was outsourced to Canada; the few jobs I've seen out there are running about$5-6/hour less than I'm making now, and unemployment is running about 50% of usual wage...holy shit.
I don't know what I am going to do. I don't know how to tell my husband.
Merry fuckin' Christmas.
*sigh*
I thought for about 2 seconds about driving off a bridge, while I still have insurance, so maybe my husband could at least pay off the house, but I'd probably fuck that up and wind up paralyzed and cost us even more money, so that's out.
It's gonna be really hard to go in to work for the rest of the month with anything approaching a decent attitude. I'll do it, I'll manage, but holy shit, it's gonna be tough.
I love what I do. I'm really good at what I do. And it's not valued worth a SHIT.

my husband and I both lost our positions in the auto industry...lost our home...he found a job here in nebraska so this is where we landed. Credit is ruined...I still haven't found a job...so depressed I'm a little piggy from eating too much...ewwwww!

But hang in there...no bridge diving...I thought about that too but it would hurt too many people! Hang in there! We're going to make it!

Harleydad is losing his job in March so I understand the fear. I'm disabled so I can't do much to help him. I'm glad you didn't drive off the bridge. It would hurt too many people and not really help anything ... although I'll admit that the thought has crossed my mind as well.

Employers don't know the value of good employees. It's such a fucking waste.

My heart goes out to you grannylib. Everyone I know, including me, is worried about losing their jobs. Well, actually I'm worried about my husband's job- I'm self-employed and will always have some clients coming in, although possibly fewer.

Try visualizing yourself with a great, well-paying job! Imagine how it would feel, look, be. It worked for me!

Oh, and when husband was last unemployed, they had a pretty good array of training programs that Unemployment was willing to pay for. He was ready to start one when he finally got a job.

33. Love This Life
Seal my fate
I get your tongue in the mail
No one is wise
Until they see how it lies
Love this life
Don't wait till the next one comes
Pedal my faith
The wheels are still turning round, turn round

And maybe the day will come
When youll never have to feel no pain
After all my complaining
Gonna love this life
Gonna love this life

And so they threw you in jail
Whatever you've done
It was a million to tone
And don't you just love this life
When its holding you down
Pedal my faith
The wheels are still turning round, turn round

So maybe the day will come
When you'll never have to feel no pain
After all my complaining
Gonna love this life
Gonna love this life

There's something that you can do
Even if you think that I hate you
Stop your complaining leave me defenseless
When you love this life
Gotta love this life
Love this life though you'll never know why
Gonna love this life
Gonna love

I hope this helps a little. Stay with us - the last thing we need is another hole in the river.

40. Awww, FinnFan...can't tell you how much that means right now!
A couple of years ago, when my husband was facing a depressing time due to a life-threatening illness, when we had no insurance, I took a small chalkboard and some Scrabble tiles and put "love this life" on the frame and hung it by his bed...for just this very reason!

Thanks for your encouragement...

Please talk to a professional about these feelings. Even if they were just for two seconds. Two seconds is all it could take to make a difference some day.

Hold on! It does get better. You know, I'm sure, there are people who love you and need you (with or without a job).

:(

I lost my job yesterday, but it sounds like your situation is way worse so I really feel for you. I hope you can find something you love soon.

My advice is to tell everyone you know, don't keep it a secret. I mentioned to a friend last night that I lost my job, and he found me a possible job lead completely by accident today. He was telling a customer of his that his store would be closing and he was going to lose his job, then he mentioned me. It turns out his customer is looking to hire freelance help in my field. She and I have already been in contact and it may just lead to some work. So you never know, put it out there. We all have to work together.

And don't you dare drive off a bridge! We need you.

I lose my job in a month and half. Not married and a decent termination package so it isn't as bad as some but I have spent beyond my means like everyone.

As for the bridge part.

Your husband would be worse off with out you.

When I was that low in Junior high I told myself one thing "Can't let the bastards win!"(who ever the designated bastarrd is). Been reminding myself of that a few times over the last year.

good luck.
