OMG I'VE BEEN OUTED! I might as well confess to you my friends in the lounge
I voted for a republican in both 1986 AND 1994

What did I know - I was young and crazy and didn't like anti-choice democrats in Pennsylvania. I was cured of republicanism on 12/12/2000 when the Supreme Court picked George Bush (although mind you it was 1994 that I last voted republican).

I'm hoping Joe Sestak runs. I campaigned for his house seat in 2006 when he had an upset victory over incumbant Curt Weldon.

29. Who knows
Honestly, I don' think a dem can beat Specter, he gets way too many democratic votes in Philadelphia.

But I read where Pat Toomey might go against him in the primaries. If we can pick Specter off then, then the senate seat would be an easy pickup for the democrats. Toomey is another Santorum - He might win the the primaries provided that dems don't cross over just to vote for Specter.

I worked on a republican's election campaign for city council in DC. He was a college classmate and he somehow got the university to sign off on accepting his campaign in lieu of an honor's thesis.

2. I voted for Buchanan in the MA primary in '88
I figured Tsongas would take MA w/o my help, and if I went to the GOP primary I could vote to take a vote away from GHW Bush.

So that's what I did.

County Commissioner. Protest vote. Our (unfortunately) Dem commissioner is a loudmouth egotistical corrupt a-hole. He was going to win in a landslide anyways because he is the king of pandering to the huge senior citizen vote, but I decided to protest and voted for the sacrificial GOP lamb. Who was she? Who knows. All I know was she was going to lose anyways and there was no way I was voting for that idiot.

I don't regret it, either...

It was a non-partisan race, and she was very moderate. She was running for LA County's Board of Supervisors, and she would have been excellent.

But no, she lost. The bloated Dem got it, and he still has the seat.

I never voted for a Republican candidate for President, oddly enough, but the last time I ever voted for any Republican was in 2000. Cast my vote for McCain in the primaries instead of Bush. Since November of 2000, no more votes for Republicans.

38. I voted for one a while back because the Democrats were using eminent domain...
...for a really stupid reason. They wanted to take somebody's farm so they could build a golf course. The idea was that people would go to the golf course, then come into town for shopping and eating. Unfortunately, downtown is what one might call "craptacular," and there was no chance in hell anybody would go there (especially since the golf course would be situated right by the business route bypass). They didn't seem to comprehend that the downtown needed to be rehabilitated FIRST. (There isn't even a good grocery store in the downtown area. Just a bunch of bodega-esque places and approximately 20 zillion small Mexican grocery stores. Not that I'm complaining about that, mind you...mmm...Mexican food. But I digress.)

44. I've voted for Republicans twice in my life...
Once was for Francis Sargent over Michael Dukakis for Massachusetts governor in '74. (He was one of the last of the progressive Republicans, and a family friend -- needless to say, he lost.)

The other was for Brian Derdowski for King County Council sometime in the early '90s. Once again, he was a "maverick" (sorry!) environmentalist Republican who, after being knocked out in a primary challenge from a more standard Republican the next time around, switched his party affiliation to Democrat.

51. Hell, I voted for a Republican this year.
Local office - both were social liberal, fiscal conservative moderates, and in many ways the R was the more progressive of the two. Not economically, but it wasn't really a position where the economic philosophy would make much of a difference, and they were pretty close anyway.

You might remember crackhead Marion "goddamn bitch set me up" Barry. This woman ran against him in the early '90s ... maybe '92? I can't remember her name. Anyway, she was quite liberal and would have been a Democrat almost anywhere else. I voted for her, but Barry won anyway. Shit, even when I vote Republican I lose. But that was the first and last time I've ever voted for an "R."
