PSA #2: Never take "utilities included" for granted
I'm freezing my ass off in my parents' house, with thermostats set at 65-ish, in boxer shorts and a t-shirt, waiting for my laundry to be done. Brrrrrr!

Stupid expensive oil heat. x(

:hi:

1. Having a well heated apartment is an absolute Joy!
It's one of the few perks of living in an apartment. :)

2. And I'm in a drafty 50+ year old house
Grrrrr. The furnace just came on. I assume my clothes are dry, but I'm letting the Ex do my laundry, since I cleaned all day. If I could only tear him away from his death metal for a moment...

 I wish I was kidding.

3. No blankies?
I would be bundled up if I only had shorts and a t-shirt to wear under those conditions.

4. We're at the beginning of a legendary laundry mission...
I'm guessing we'll do between 20-30 loads by Monday. And I'm not exaggerating.

Two sick/disabled parents + house full of 25 years worth of stuff and 2 dogs and 4 cats + nobody able to keep the house clean =

A house two steps from being condemned by the Board of Health. No joke. I finally got the kitchen clean enough that I would actually cook in it with out being afraid of getting sick. It's not done yet though.

We did the living room today, it's amazing, it's so clean. Tomorrow, finish the kitchen and then do the laundry room. Saturday/Sunday: Bathroom (:scared:) and Mom's room.

I'm exhausted. It's been a long 4 days so far.

So yeah, blankies are in the process somewhere in there. :P

8. We used to do 65 during the day and 60 at night in MN
Our house was fairly well insulated though, and we had a newer natural gas furnace.

We do 65 during the day and 60 at night here, and the furnace never even kicked on last winter. We just put on a warm sweatshirt during the evenings.

It is nice to have a season that we do not have to pay an exorbitant utility bill.

You are doing a very good thing for your parents. I am sad that it has to be done.

9. At least they have a thermostat
We have radiators which the building manager controls on a timer. Now, call me crazy, but WHY turn the radiators OFF at night and leave them ON during the day when everyone is at work and it's actually WARMER outside? But, that's what he does. I don't work during the day and I sit here baking. My friend says, "It's because most people are under the covers at night". But said friend at least has radiators that have a turny-thing, like a faucet, to control the temperature. My building doesn't. Sucks for night owls like me. I am fucking freezing right now. I got about an hour before they come on and I can feel my toes again.

It makes me wonder where the is the "charm" in an "old world charm" building. So I certainly will pay attnetion if I ever move to the "utilities included" portion of the lease. Don't even get me started on how long it takes him to notice the pilot light in the basement is out and the building has NO HEAT.

I get crabby when I am cold. Brrrr. The only thing that makes me not complain to the owner is that I know there are homeless people out there trying to sleep in this weather.

I wish I had vicodin. Those always warmed me up. ;-)
