I just had a really bad Barry Manilow moment.

I'm watching Graham Norton's show (hilarious!) and his guest tonight is the aforementioned Manilow. Anyway, Barry walks over to the piano and I'm reading something on DU so I'm not really paying attention. He starts playing, and I'm like "oh, cool that's 'Mandy'" in my head. I was taken aback. I mean, 1. how did I know that before he sang the first word; and, 2. how did I think to myself the word "cool" with Manilow?

I'm actually kind of suspicious of myself in how many of Manilow's songs I know.

I blame my mom.

Barry Manilow is a gifted singer. I don't like his own songs much, but I have seen a couple of his appearances on TV and the guy really can put out a song.

33. I went to a Barry Manilow concert when I was a teen-ager.

I went with my brother because he wanted to go. He really put on a terrific show, have only seen one performer with such energy and that was Bruce Springsteen, LOL. And I really do like his music, beautiful melodies and most have become classics. My friends all made fun of me, but I stuck to my guns... I enjoyed it. :D

I used to ridicule him back when I was cool and went to Satyricon several nights a week...but I learned something from that, mainly that musical moments can be fleeting indeeed...And as I've grown older and learned a bit here and there I do not fault him for doing what he's done for decades now...Maybe you're just getting older now too and have learned a lot?
