Unless you don't want to. In which case, this will be like most of my threads here. Nothing like a little familiarity! :P

5. A lot better than I expected.
Then again, I went in having lowered my expectations significantly, just because the 1950's original is a classic in every sense of the word, and because of all the less-than-stellar reviews I saw. Still, I was impressed. I thought it was a decent update of the original, and I wasn't bored or disappointed or angry when I left the theatre.

Was it better than the original? No. No way. But it wasn't terrible. I think I'll end up seeing it again.

10. Sweet.
I mean, you can never a touch a classic, but if they can at least make it fun, that works for me.

11. It was indeed fun.
Keanu was actually pretty good as Klaatu. I know what you're thinking, "Keanu Reeves, playing an emotionally inept, slightly awkward, cardboard-like alien? No way!" I've got just two words for you:

Yes way!

12. I just say it

and I liked it, the only part that bothered me was that was never said. I was waiting for that moment. I do like that Gort did look a lot like the original.

Also I think that the theme of this is much like the first. The more violence done to Gort the worse things got for the humans, and the people in charge couldn't seem to get that more violence was not the answer, in fact is was making things worse. I don't however buy into that this is yet another movie that is an allegory for the Bush presidency.

14. I think it actually was said, but I need to watch the movie again to be sure.
Klaatu muttered something to GORT after he'd been shot, but I couldn't make it out. My mind instantly told me it must have been "Klaatu barada nikto," but I wasn't listening closely enough.

23. It would at least make sense.
Wikipedia said the line was uttered at the end, but I thought it was right there after Klaatu had been shot. After all, "Klaatu barada nikto" is a command that instructs GORT that an escalation of violence is not needed, and that he should move to a defensive standby.

I for one and looking forward to the Star Trek movie and the Watchmen. Now because I am a turbo Trek nerd there are many who feel that I am supposed to automatically hate it because J.J. Abrams is making it. I have seen the trailer and I totally geeked for it, besides I don't think Abrams is the devil. I love LOST and Fringe is amazing. The Watchmen trailer looks amazing, but because it is Zak Snyder there are too many of the beach towel brigade that already writing it off.

"And don't forget to look for the exciting sequel, 'Spaceballs 2: The Quest for More Money!'"

Simple as that.

18. I thought it was worth it, but that may be because I drastically lowered my expectations.
I went in with them pretty low, and I was pleasantly surprised.

I'm generally very skeptical of remakes and sequels unless I really trust the capabilities of the director.

27. Fair enough.
I have become exceptionally suspicious about remakes, especially of classic movies. If a classic movie is a classic, why the hell are you messing with it? because you know you'll make 200-300 million at the box office? is that really worth the price of losing part of your soul from trampling on a classic piece of cinema?

Still... I enjoyed it.

DS1 Reviews: Something that he will see in the next few hours.

It was my childhood familiarity of things unseen which turned me on to Keanu Reeve's rework of "The Day the Earth Stood Still". I was 14 when I saw my first unseen seeable.

Alerting!

That's about all I can figure out about these Avs. They're about as mediocre as mediocre gets.

Of course, no one responded to that thread, so if I don't mention it no one will know. My son told me he wanted to see it, so I took him (he's 13). It's his new favorite movie.

My review? I thought it was pretty well made, but cowardly. It wanted to be a message movie without specifying the message. The message was a vague "human beings sometimes do the wrong things, but we can do the right things under the right circumstances. Notice that the movie sort of implied that global warming was the problem, but never used the words "global warming." As a result, I think that people are going to see any message that they want to. And then the resolution has nothing whatsoever to do with anything that proceeded it (I'm trying to be deliberately vague).

It pissed me off because it wanted to have its cake and eat it too - it wanted to have a "message" without pissing people off. It could have been great. Instead, it's a well-made, made-marketed package of nothing.

The point was "Be Excellent to Each Other"!

Duh!

Wyld Stallions!

I liked it. Sure, it was sci-fi fodder, but that's what I expected.

32. "cowardly"
that is to often a feature of Hollywood movies unfortunately and why most remakes fall short, they don't go after the story and all the issues and characterizations that make it an interesting story with the same gusto and bravery as the original.

33. How bad is Keanu's performance?
I'm assuming it's pretty bad. My discomfiture over this remake is that the original Klaatu was played by a fine actor with a great voice but this one has a lead who stage whispers his lines.

34. seeing it two weeks before Xmas in a mall makes you agree with Klaatu
I thought the movie was ok, Keanu was a little stilted in his dialogue, but as an action movie blockbuster, it was ok, certianly better than the Happening. :P

but man, seeing it at a mall, two weeks before christmas, is a mistake! You come out of that agreeing with klaatu that people are a vile species. People creating their own driving lanes, parking where ever the hell they want. can't tell you how many times I had to suddenly backtrack and walk around a group of people who suddenly stopped to hold a conversation in the middle of the walkway.
