I wonder how it feels to have your pastor/boss tell you "Get your ass over there and fix it!". I didn't enjoy it myself. But she did get her ass over there and fixed it. So, there's that.

1. I am not in my job to make friends
I've made a lot of them but my primary reason for being there is to accomplish my job. If I have to bark at an assistant - or even a friend - to do my job properly, that's what's going to happen.

2. I don't do it often. But not putting the special Advent song sheets we needed in the bulletin
was a pretty big SNAFU. And since I didn't know where she kept the originals, I couldn't solve the problem myself.

So, barking ensued. No one seemed permanently injured.

3. Did you say that if she didn't then Pastor JVS was going to come and give her hell?
I'm just waiting for my chance to start busting heads and forcing people to recant Calvinistic understandings of the Eucharist.

5. I'm gonna start using the "Pastor JVS" threat more often.
But most of my parishioners are Zwinglians. Whether they know it or not.

9. I'll warn 'em. "Wrath of God? Hell, that's nothin' compared to the wrath of JVS!"

10. "Because I detect a lack of spiritual preparation and reflection this Advent and...
as a gesture of sympathy toward our departed brothers and sisters in the Russian Orthodox Church who mourn the death of their Patriarch, Alexei II, I have decided that this congregation will adopt the Julian calender for liturgical purposes. Christmas is postponed until Jan 7th. Anyone caught celebrating on Dec. 25th will be excommunicated."

4. I'm sort of like you in that way...
98% of the time it's hard for me to be commanding or bossy, but yet, 2% of the time it's easy for me to yell or even berate someone. If you had to, you had to. It's work, it happens.

6. It happens rarely enough that people know I'm not just a screamer.
But they also know I expect them to fulfill their responsibilities. I expect the same of myself.

7. Once things have cooled down. Bring her a bag of
doggy treats for the next time you have to bark at her.
