20. I remember the cast saying they were glad to get rid of the monkey...
because it was a PITA to work with... But truly, I think they were worried about being upstaged.

I will say that Lisa Kudrow is comedy-capable, and has been in some great supporting roles ("The Opposite of Sex" with Christina Ricci comes to mind).

I tried to watch that dumb-assed show and I went mental...

When it was popular, I was writing TV comedy... I had to watch other shows... I never "got it." Never.

46. It really is intolerable
The characters are shallow and predictable and the jokes aren't funny. It's telling how mindless Americans want their comedy to be.

50. I believe
that if given the chance, most people actually like a well written show that uses actual humor - Seinfeld was funny. It managed to be funny for years and years and the ratings were always way up there... Here are some other picks of mine:

The Dick VanDyke show - Incredible.

The Andy Griffith Show. One of the all time best shows

The Daily Show - It speaks for me.

SCTV - O' Canada! What a great show this was.

Kids in the Hall - Another hit from our friends to the North.

Taxi - Had lots of great moments

No list is complete without "I Love Lucy"

Barney Miller

The Bob Newhart Show (Psychologist in Chicago.)

The Honeymooners

The Mary Tyler Moore Show

All in the Family - first several years - last 2 years sucked

I could have LOVED M*A*S*H - it was good for the first 2 or 3 seasons - then it became "The Alan Alda Show" Written by, produced by, starring, lit by, filmed by, edited by... It became mono-dimensional when Alda sucked the life out of it.

memorable...Rachel and Ross doing it in the Museum...dude...you know you would SOOOO remember that if it happened to you!

to be honest, I watched it as I watch a lot of other stuff on TV...to escape from the suck of my life.

like a lot of stuff in TV Wasteland it is not the greatest nor the worst. YMMV.

14. Friends represents everything mediocre with Television
At the time, the viewers continually watched in fascination. In retrospect, people should be gushing over it and telling timeless one liners (The Jeffersons or Seinfeld come to mind) and bringing up plots that are funny just in description. Instead, it's remembered for the 'smelly cat'.

The show sucked. And it was on for far too long. Making it the worst show ever.

19. That's an important point.
The truly horrible shows usually disappear rapidly, leaving a vaguely fecal taste in the mouth. The merely bland ones can go on and on and on....

But at what point does pointlessness become the point? Does the timeless nature of Friends open some sort of gaping hole in time itself? Does merely sucking time on an epic scale become the same thing as epically sucking? YMMV.

Nine seasons of the Love Boat (plus three TV movies) eclipses all in my own narrow opinion of what a bad TV can be...

But fifteen plus years of the Simpsons are fighting hard for that number one spot.

29. There are worse
What about that lame sitcom with the incredibly homely kid with his pants pulled up to his armpits who talked through his nose? I never watched it, but received glancing blows periodically as I surfed the clicker. Ouch.

Or what about that Nanny crap? Same deal, only with a bad accent.

Friends was lame and increasingly annoying, but I'm sure I could come up with a much longer list of worsts to top it.

32. Hands down the worst show is a piece of shit that
is carried by MTV called Date My Mom. You have to see it to believe it. Three women humiliate themselves by going out with a moron they try to convince to take out their daughters sight unseen. At the end the young stud informs two of the women he does not want to date their daughters, whom he then meets for the first time - usually with some nasty, snarky commentary. He then informs the third woman he does want to date her daughter, who then emerges from a limo and skips down a beach parking lot with him.

It's all scripted, but none of the people can act worth shit. I can't believe it occupies space on the airwaves.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112206/

"E" from "Entourage" played the brother
Basically the purpose of this show was for Nikki Cox to show off her spectacular body

Bobcat Goldthwait did the voice of the stuffed animal in the basement that the father went and talked to

the set is exactly the same as Married with Children

Edited on Mon Dec-15-08 10:51 PM by kwassa
Not that it is saying much. I still don't find most of Seinfeld funny, and that was a good show by comparison with many now.

Television is on an endless march to the lowest common denominator, and then making the great effort to drive it lower.

I think "Flava of Love" on MTV is a serious contender for the worst. The reality show about Ozzy Osborne's family life. The one about rich girl's 16th birthday parties. And on and on.
