When you said shake he shook his entire body. Freaked out the really stoned pizza guy one night. You had to say "give me five" for him to give up the paw.

15. Jesse.
Honestly the sweetest little orange tiger stripped baby ever. Unfortunately, I only had him for a few months, he was hit by a car when he was about 8 months old. :(

But I ended up going back and adopting his brother, Alex, who was also an amazing cat.

My three current furbabies are also fabulous, but Jesse was special. I wish we'd had more time with him.

16. Like asking which of my kids is my favorite. Though there are some I've liked LESS than others.
My favorites were a dog named Blackie who walked to the local country store on Three Rivers Road with me, then shared my bag of Lays Sour Cream and Onion potato chips on the way back--one for me, one for him, I was always fair--and Mister Vincent Kincaide, the Persian cat who lay beside my computer as I wrote my master's thesis and who was there for me when no one else in my life was.

But as soon as I say that I feel guilty for not mentioning my darling Calico Amber, or my noble German Shepard Bridget, or my poor brave tabby Minnie who so valiantly fought her final illness, or the aloof Maine Coon Kiki who is so close to human speech as to make me doubt there is any difference between human and animal aside from opposable thumbs, or any number of other "pets."

Edited on Mon Dec-15-08 02:35 PM by charlie and algernon
Lucky was eventually done in by other carnival fish. We found out that the fish we got that second year weren't that healthy. Unfortunately we only realized this AFTER we put them in the same tank as Lucky. Lucky, and the new fish, didn't last long afterward. :(

23. Lucky's luck ran out.
:(

I think that happens a lot. Lots of those fish that kids bring home in plastic bags don't last the day. There are some hardy exceptions, like Lucky and Mr. Bob. And, come to think of it, our friends have two gi-normous and old carnival goldfish...They are probably about seven inches long now.

Our pet store has stopped stocking "feeder fish" because of all the health problems. They only sell the fancy goldfish now.

24. the fact that most of those fish spend their time in a cooler
Edited on Mon Dec-15-08 02:48 PM by charlie and algernon
during the carnival doesn't help much. I imagine that cooler must get hot and all the dust and germs that get in every time they open it, if they even close it at all, can't be good to the fish's well-being. I've had lots of goldfish dead less than a week after we got them. Lucky was the only one to last more than a couple months.

I miss him terribly, and not a day goes by that I don't think about him. Agatha may grow to fill that spot, as I love her dearly, but he was my baby for 16 years. Here he is with Dropkid the summer before we had him PTS (he was 16).

My Dairy cow kittie. Whenever I wanted to pick her up I would ask first and if she replied then I can pick her up. We had an understanding,I would never just pick her up out of the blue and she would never run from me. As long as I asked..

She died at a very young age about 6 years ago, I still dream about her.

29. Kwan Yin
the shiny black cat had Siamese and Burmese ancestry on her father's side. She was actually sable brown as a kitty. If the summer sun hit her just right, you could see the brown underneath, in kind of a tabby pattern.

Honorable mention goes to her uncle Sean Timothy Michael Murray, who wasn't as glamorous (plain old orange tabby), but was one hell of a cat. Had he not succumbed to FUS at age 5, he'd probably have become the co-favorite.

32. I don't know if I could chose...
I had a cat named Al who was my best friend in the world. I don't know if I loved him more than my other cats, but he was around the longest, so we had a longer relationship.

I love my dog, Pepper, very much. She is like a child to me. However, I don't know that I'll ever see her again, since she lives with my now ex-girlfriend. There ought to be some law that says that the person who does the breaking up can't keep the dog. What bullshit. It's not like the dog had any say in the matter. Poor thing.

36. Miss Ana de Mendosa
AKA Miss Ana, AKA Ana Puss.

She was a one-eyed cat who was given to me by a neighbor when they had a child and were afraid she would harm the child. Ha! (She as already hanging out at my place. And she never went back when she was officially handed over.)

I named her after Ana de Mendosa, a 16th century Spanish beauty who had only one eye. Mendosa has been immortalized in the opera Don Carlos (or Don Carlo). Those who know what they are doing, portray the Senorita with an eye patch.

Miss Ana was the cat of cats. She lived to be 19 and I miss her still. A long-haired tortoiseshell.
