Poll question: If you could choose one thing to change about winter...
Which one of these would you choose? I mean, presuming that "getting rid of it almost entirely" isn't a poll option. :)

2. Indeed.
It gets dark around 4:30-4:45 around here. That late for you?

3. I left the office at 3:35pm. I was wearing sunglasses.
By the time I got home (a little short of 4:00), I had taken them off.

Of course in the summer it stays light a really long time, so I guess that's the trade-off.

I've always been curious about that.

9. Nope, it's dark over 1/2 the day.
Sun is up at 7:30-ish; dark at 4:30.

Summer is the polar opposite. Light at 5-something, dark at 9:00-9:30.

13. That is kind of similar to here.
Our sunrise and sunset this time of year is like daylight at 7:20 and dark at 5:10 or so.

I think you may have about 40 minutes more dark than I do. I want your dark. That's my dark. Give it to me. :P :D

4. Dark.
Edited on Mon Dec-15-08 08:49 PM by Jamastiene
I like the dark. I have been a night owl for so long that sunlight hurts my eyes now AND skin. No kidding. When the Sun is low in the sky (like at the end of fall), it practically feels like it is burning my eyes and face when I drive. Fuck summer altogether. I cannot even stand in the Sunlight for more than 10 minutes in the summer without blisters breaking out everywhere.

I don't like daytime AT ALL. I can't stand it. I want it dark. Paint it black. Make it all black and dark. Night time all the time would be perfect for me.

Also, I would add some humidity to winter. You know how they always say it's not the heat, it's the humidity in the summer? I'd like a middle ground in winter. I don't really mind the cold, because it doesn't get too overly cold where I live, but I sure would like it to be less dry. It gets entirely too dry here in the winter. It just kills my skin.

It's not even officially winter yet and already, I'm so sick of bloody cracks in my hands, knuckles, toes, and feet. They crack and they bleed and they fucking hurt.

So, this time of year, if I have to do business during the day (like run errands), I'm blinded for life AND my skin fucking hurts with all the cracks in it from being so dry. That's the part of this time of year that I don't like. Otherwise, fall and winter are my favorites.

10. You can have some of my humidity.
That is what is so bad about winter here. Once it gets below 30, it can be 80% humidity, and every bone in my body aches.
Once we light the fireplace, and dry out the house, things are fine.
It also helps we have gas heat as opposed to electric, helps dry out the house.
We are 90 miles north of the Gulf.

I stay indoors.
in socks, slippers, heavy robe, heater by my chair, heat on in the house.

come Feb. I emerge into the world.

15. First, it would last ten months. And the days would be short for 9 of those, and no sun. And colder.
I really think I need to move and live between Scotland or Northern Norway (winter) and Antarctica (its winter).

22. I just don't really like summer. I like a few weeks of being able to put the top down
on the convertible, but mostly what I really like are overcast days, and when the sun doesn't come up until 8 in the morning (or later) and goes down early, and so forth and so on...

Mostly, it's also that I hate: a) insects, b) things that bother my allergies, c) humidity, and d) the sun.

All that said, the years that I lived in Hawaii were truly wonderific - almost never humid, not so many insects, not so much allergen (because of year-round growing, there isn't the intense concentration of pollens that cold states get in May and August), and never too hot. I could also very easily live in Hawaii again.

But if not Hawaii, then I really want northern cold-ass sun-eschewing geographies.

Too cloudy in the winter in western Oregon, which makes the dark far more unbearable. What I wouldn't give for a little extra sunshine and starlight.

34. Cleaning my car off in the morning.
Those ice remover thingies really don't work and I usually end up 10 minutes late for work. I find a credit card works better in some instances than those doohickies with the brush on the end. And then there's cleaning the snow off the car in the morning....or the snow and then the layer of ice beneath the snow....by then, you just call your boss and fake a cold.

There would obviously be a lot of standards regarding lifts, runs, groomed/ungroomed, bowls, cornices, etc.

That's what happens when you get government involved! :)
