So, when did dogs become a disposable item like empty beer cans? (I didn't get the memo)

People are sick. THREE dumped dogs in as many days on my road. TWO of which I think I have seen previous litters from the same mating pair. (one of which is sitting on my lap right now & the other I was able to find a home for)

I am in a bit of a pinch financially right now due to possible layoffs or I would do the right thing & vet then find them a home. I was forced to take the first one to the pound, I will probably be forced to take the other two in on my next day off. I have six dogs I love very much right now and feel I have no more time/finances/ability to take in any more. I spend my first hour home from work every night petting them/giving them the attention they ask for. (good thing I have two hands!) It breaks my heart to take a dog in to near certain death but letting them roam is certain death that might come from starvation or coyote attack. These slobs dumping dogs have got me quite upset, they think nothing of dropping a living creature THEY caused to be brought into this world off on the side of a road in the country. I can't take them all in, I would be arrested for hoarding. I can't keep running them into town because some slob is so heartless he can't figure out that dogs have puppies. I get such an empty/hopeless feeling when I drop off a dog at the pound. I feel responsible for his/her death.

I'm afraid of what I might do if I ever caught one of these people in the act although I do have good self control. Why do people feel they can do that to an animal? The guy I dropped off was soooo sweet, he even started licking my face on the way to the pound. I actually started crying a bit after I dropped him off which is bad for a 45 year old guy. Hell, I would even pay for these peoples dogs to be spayed if I knew who they were.

I have concluded that there is a percentage of the human population who aren't fit to live. There is no excuse for doing that to a helpless animal. If they aren't responsible enough to raise a dog I SURE hope they don't have children. I hope they don't start dropping them off in the country.

Sorry about the rant. If anyone has any ideas on how to stop them I would like to hear them. I was thinking of plastering pictures of the dogs around nearby towns (at/near the wal-marts) saying "This dog died because you are a pig" -Human is being too generous.

Some one has dumped three cats in our complex. I can't afford to take them all in, and I'm already over my legal limit of pets.

My faith in humanity was restored a bit this weekend. I wondered "just where does my dog go when she manages to sneak out?" So when she did it again, I followed her. She went straight to the other four hidden bowls of cat food - I hide mine on a ledge so the dogs can't get at it. I'm not the only one who can't afford to adopt them, but can't stand the thought of them starving.

My great Aunt (mothers aunt) has over 40 cats & 5 dogs, all rescues/strays and all have been spayed/neutered/vetted. She can't pass an animal in need without helping. There is no telling how many animals she has paid for vetting & placed in homes. She lives to help animals.

13. I'm hoping I can get the local free spay/neuter

Program for ferals to make sure there aren't a bunch more to feed soon - even the Humane Society's low cost program is too much for my reduced finances at this point. Right now Operation Catnip is overbooked, but I put myself on the waiting list. Honestly, if you can't take proper care of an animal, just take it to the pound. Most of those get euthanized, but it's a kinder death than starvation or disease.

I will not commit a crime that will land me in jail in order to try to change the habits of a slob. I would however tell them to their face that I am reporting them for animal dumping which is an animal cruelty offense in Tennessee. I will inform them that I hope they get the entire sentence of 11 months & 29 days in the slammer plus the 2500 dollar fine. I will look right into their eyes and tell them I am going to see them locked up. What happens after that is up to them.

I really hate people that do that. Hate as in if they caught fire I would break out the marshmallows.

Bitches have puppies if not spayed. If you fail to spay your bitch she is going to have puppies. If you are not intentionally breeding the bitch you need to have her spayed in order to not have puppies. If you find that you have to drive out to the middle of nowhere in order to dispose of unwanted puppies read this again.

How can people be so stupid? I agree some might call it respect for animals but to me it is "What part of reproduction do you not understand"?

That said, I do think that people who dump animals or abuse animals should be executed, even if it is dogs. There is something distinctly inhuman about such acts; something which shows that the person has never evolved beyond pre-human base reptile-brain behavior, and they should be eliminated from the gene pool. Like gum chewers, yuppies, Dave Matthews fans, angry people, racists, bigots, and homophobes.

9. I swear, I almost removed a couple from the list of the living a few years ago.

Was volunteering at the humane society, and they pulled up in their truck to dump off a litter of 8 pups. They were known regulars, twice a year there, like clockwork. The HS offered to spay the mother for free (the mother that they happened to have with them), but they said no. I about threw that asshole out of the bed of the truck. Then it would've been a Macho Madness elbow drop off the truck bed onto his throat.

It seems as if they keep the dogs for the first few months. Do you think they like to play with puppies then grow weary of the things? Sort of like a kid at Christmas with a toy? That's the only thing I can think it could be.

At least your scumbag took them to the shelter, dropping them in the country is just plain cruel. A lot of people just shoot them rather than driving them to town. I can't fault them as I am sure after years of having dogs dumped on them you see the futility of it all. The dog will die by either a bullet or a chemical injection.
It's a sad situation that makes me question mankind.

These puppies that they brought in by the litter a couple times a year were maybe 8 or 9 weeks. Just weaned. They just didn't get the idea that spaying their girl would not only help her, it would help not kill 18 or so dogs a year.

Living out in the country, we see it all the time. I have taken them to the no-kill shelter (when they will take them, and paid to do so), and run ads in the newspaper at my expense to see them adopted. The neighbor on the farm above us takes them in, but they have outdoor kennel runs adjacent to their barn.

I have rescued dogs for about 30 years. I can't do it anymore. I just pray that I don't see a stray dog. If I do, I just say a prayer that some other kind soul will take it in.

16. I hear ya. I've rescued a few and...

one of my cats is a "summer cat" left here in the fall when the beachgoers can't be bothered to have a cat in their "real" home. This one sdopted me, but every winter I have to leave food out for the other "summer cats."

Dogs the town gathers up real fast, 'specially the ones tied to phone poles on the main road around Labor Day.

(and don't get me started on what happens to chicks and baby bunnies after the assholes who buy them for their kids realize they don't stay that small)

17. I am also outraged at this behaviour. One of my neighbors moved and left their cute little

Scottish fold cat behind...just like that.

I managed to find a good home for him, but he had already contracted pneumonia and was starving. Luckily he responded well to antibiotics. The new owner even had him neutered, which the original owners never did.

I wish upon those people that abandon these poor helpless creatures, that one day they too will be abandoned by those upon whom they depend and think care for them.

It is my hope that those who do this to animals & teach their children that abandonment is an acceptable behavior will end up alone in a nursing home with no visitors. Karma :)
